Hiawatha Leadership Academy - Morris Park (HLA-Morris Park) is our flagship elementary school, founded in 2007. It has been highlighted as a &#8220;Reward School&#8221; by the MDE for the past two school years, and has won awards for its academic successes and commitment to being an inclusive and welcoming school. HLA-Morris Park serves 390 scholars in kindergarten through fourth grade. HLA-Morris Park is currently seeking a passionate, social- justice-oriented teacher to join our team as the Specialist Teacher, starting in the 2018-19 school year. Role Description At HLA-Morris Park, we believe that an excellent education for every student includes opportunities for every student to explore passions and interests beyond the core curriculum. The Specialist teacher will join a team of specialist teachers that currently includes Physical Education, Art, Music, Spanish, and Movement teachers. The new specialist offering will be determined based on the expertise of the selected candidate. We are seeking a hard-working, passionate, and goal-oriented educator to join our team as a Specialist Teacher in the future. The Specialist Teacher at HLA-Morris Park has the opportunity to teach every child in our school each week. The ideal candidate is someone who is not only passionate about investing students in art; but also leads children to explore and develop their personal, cultural, and ethnic identities and to pursue social justice through the lens of their content. All HLA teachers are charged with providing rigorous, standards-based, and highly engaging learning environments for their scholars. In addition to teaching their Specialist Class, the Specialist Teacher will partner with a classroom teacher to teach literacy to one class of students each morning. They will also collaborate with the other specialist teachers to plan and lead interdisciplinary health classes. Teachers must be present from 7:00 am-3:15 pm, Monday-Friday. Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 1:45 pm-3:15 pm. All Hiawatha Staff are expected to attend and participate in all family events at the school.
