Positions begin January 2018 and run through June 2019 Positions available throughout the state Positions require availability, Monday- Friday, during regular school hours Elementary, Kindergarten-Focused, or Preschool Literacy Tutor: Provide literacy tutoring and support for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade or Preschool setting, during school hours. Training is provided, so no prior tutoring, formal education experience or experience with children is required. Tutors also receive on-site support from trained school literacy coaches. Choose between K-3, Kindergarten Focus or Preschool Tutor positions at hundreds of schools throughout the state. Elementary Literacy Tutors: * Work one-on-one with students (Kindergarten - 3rd grade) who need extra support learning to read. * Are trained to use scripted Minnesota Reading Corps literacy interventions for 20-minute sessions throughout the day to help students improve reading fluency. * Receive training to conduct literacy assessments and enter student data into an online system each week, in order to monitor student progress with the literacy coach at the school. Kindergarten-Focused Literacy Tutors: * Work with kindergarten students one-on-one and in small groups throughout the school day. * Are trained to use scripted Minnesota Reading Corps early literacy interventions and collaborate with the classroom teaching staff on a daily basis to help students develop literacy skills such as letter recognition, rhyming and work recognition. * Receive training to conduct literacy assessments and enter student data into an online system each week, in order to monitor student progress with the literacy coach at the school. Schedule: * Regular, timely attendance during school hours, Monday-Friday, with before and after school hours possibly required. * Attend required Reading Corps sponsored trainings, meetings and coaching sessions; travel as necessary. Salary: Full- time tutors (45 hours/week) earn up to $597 bi-weekly living allowance and up to $2,960 education award to use towards college tuition or student loan payments. Three-quarter time tutors (35 hours/week) earn up to $437 living allowance and up to $2,255 education award. Part-time tutors (25 hours/week) earn up to $298 living allowance and up to $1,566 education award. 3-day/week tutors (18 hours/week - 6 hours/day) earn up to $227 bi-weekly living allowance and up to $1,253 education award. Minimum Qualifications: * Must be 18 years of age or older by January, 2018. * Must have a high school diploma or GED by January, 2018. * Must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States. * Must not have served 4 or more terms of service previously with AmeriCorps. * Speak, read and write English fluently. * Interest in education, specifically helping children develop their reading skills. * Dedication to community service. * Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate online systems and email. * Organized, responsible, flexible, motivated and professional. * Ability to accept and incorporate constructive feedback from coaches and program staff. * Ability to work with diverse personalities.
