Beacon Academy Charter School has immediate openings for a School Social Worker. The Social Worker is responsible for facilitating 504 plans throughout the building and for supporting students on Individual Education Programs (IEP) by acting as a service provider to achieve growth and progress. The Social Worker will also serve as the Homeless Liaison Officer. The Social Worker will work with all departments within the building facilitating social and emotional learning. QAULIFICATIONS a. Education consistent with the requirements of the State of Minnesota for licensure as a K-12 Social Worker. Prior experience as a school social worker a plus. Must have effective communication skills. DESIRABLE TRAITS AND ATTITUDES: * Has a positive attitude toward the job, the students and the staff * Respects the values of confidentiality and integrity * Has the ability to work independently, organize, and use time effectively * Shows initiative but is also willing to take direction * Conducts oneself in a professional and ethical manner * Dresses appropriately for a school setting REPORTS TO: The school social worker will be responsible to the school administration. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Social and Emotional Support &#183; supports students in general education in groups and individual for social emotional learning/ support (example: Calm class or Universal Screener) &#183; supports students going through crisis/ self-harm/ or suicide ideation &#183; identifies students at risk for academic or emotional/ behavioral concerns; coordinate with general education teachers and/ or special education staff &#183; to implement Responsive Classroom, or other curriculum, through the effective use of individual and small group 504 Coordinator &#183; facilitates 504 planning meetings and write/ review/ distribute Section 504 plans &#183; engages staff involvement to ensure the effective implementation of 504 programming &#183; helps students, in collaboration with parents, establish goals and develop and 504s as needed Special Education &#183; assists the special education team with IEP write/ review/ and implementation &#183; helps case managers, in collaboration with the IEP team, to establish goals and develop social work supports as needed based on each child&#8217;s IEP Homeless Liaison &#183; connects families who are experiencing homelessness with access to resources &#183; ensures that all parties in the process are communicated with effectively and confidentially Character Education &#183; Be a consistent representative on the Character Education Committee &#8211; attend monthly meetings &#183; Support the committee&#8217;s initiatives and assist in aligning classroom practice with the school&#8217;s monthly traits and values &#183; Aligns the needs of the monthly character education traits with the DAP survey results Other job related duties as assigned. NOTE: Some lifting and carrying of materials may be required, typically less than 40 lbs.
