Position Description MEDIA ARTS & DESIGN INSTRUCTOR Teachers must demonstrate creativity and attention to detail, both characteristics of a graphic artist. A familiarity of standard industry hard- and software is required, in addition to keeping up with upgrades and advancements. Because each student comes to class with his or her own ideas and suggestions, teachers must allow a certain amount of creativity without imposing their ideas onto students. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES General * Maintain and enrich their expertise in Media and Visual Arts using a variety of trainings * Develop instructional plans that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and the additional specific grade-by-grade learning standards set forth in the charter; * Coordinate instructional plans with other teachers to maximize possibilities for teaching similar topics in the same general time frame, thus reinforcing student knowledge on an interdisciplinary basis; * Provide direct and indirect instruction; * Perform long and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students; * Prepare students adequately for all required assessments; both by the charter and the government * Evaluate students&#8217; progress; using a variety of methods for evaluating for project driven curriculum * Prepare at least quarterly individual student achievement reports for parents; * Provide an inviting, exciting, innovative, learning environment; * Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management in alignment with established school wide policies and practices; * Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff; * Serve as an advisor to a students, including organizing advisory groups, overseeing the academic and behavioral progress; * Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the Dean and Executive Director Executive * Demonstrated expertise in the subject being taught, as evidenced by personal skills and knowledge, an undergraduate major or minor or graduate degree in the subject being taught, or direct subject-area teaching experience; * Possess any required state teaching certification and meets any other applicable credentialing requirements including the federal Secondary Education Act, as amended; * Demonstrated communication skills; * Demonstrated ability and experience to engage the interest of high school-age children; * Demonstrated ability to work with diverse children, including those with special needs; * Teaching experience in a public or private school, preferably in an urban setting; * Demonstrated ability to work well with parents; * Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member; * Demonstrated ability to evaluate tests, data and measurements of achievement; * Demonstrated willingness to be held accountable for student results. Event Coordination Assistance * Provide assistance with the preparation of school tours and recruiting information sessions * Provide assistance with the preparation of the graduation ceremony as needed * Provide assistance with gallery, student, field trip and fundraising events throughout the year * Provides lead role in helping teachers coordinate the service learning curriculum and outreach REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * College degree in area of expertise or Master&#8217;s in Teaching. * Current MN State teaching license or provisional MN State teaching license * Certification in nutrition * Experience teaching contact improvisation and movement fundamentals at high school level * Experience in interdisciplinary curriculum development * Experience incorporating personalized learning principles and project-driven activities into instruction plans * Extraordinary attention to detail and follow through to work independently in a project-driven environment and meet deadlines and commitments * Excellent verbal and written communication skills when interacting with the general public, school personnel, state agencies, and other agencies on a regular basis * Ability to develop positive interpersonal relationships between students, staff, parents, volunteers and community members * Outstanding attention to detail, work ethic, punctuality, attendance and commitment to accuracy and organizational skills to balance demands of a multitasking position Demonstrated ability to: * maintain confidentiality regarding parent, student, and staff issues * adhere to district and school policy, rules, and regulations * adhere to all state and federal laws, rules, and regulations * thrive in a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively with staff located on- and off-site * Highly developed technology skills in the areas of office software, electronic communication, database systems, word processing, spreadsheets, and office equipment operation; i.e., phones, fax, and copier * Intellectual curiosity and ability to learn quickly, ask thoughtful questions and synthesize information * Willingness to pursue/engage in professional development and/or certification as necessary WORKING ENVIRONMENT Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above, in addition to the following: * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and sit.
