Description: Responsibilities and Duties Under the direction of the school administrator, the licensed special education teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; and functions as IEP manager to assigned students. Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student&#8217;s IEP Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques Employ various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals Adhere to procedural requirements, including due process timelines, special education logs, lesson plan, etc. Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student&#8217;s IEP Serve as primary contact for the parent Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations Develop FBA/BIPs as well as monitor, document, oversee student behavior both inside and outside of the classroom Attend and participate in PLC meetings Provide instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff: assigns activities, provides guidance and instructional oversight Collaborate and consult with educational professionals and community service providers (i.e., social services, public health, medical providers, etc.) regarding the needs of students; Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities Provide professional expertise and assistance to individuals, other district staff, and the community concerning areas of instructional expertise/knowledge Attend training sessions, conferences, seminars, district and departmental meetings Keep abreast of changing developments, trends, instructional and educational technologies Perform other comparable duties of a like or similar nature or other duties as assigned Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job: Current knowledge of special education laws, rules and regulations and district policies and procedures; The ability to apply these to help insure District compliance Skilled in administering, scoring and interpreting special education assessment tools and procedures Knowledge of teaching principles, practices, techniques, and approaches. Knowledge of child development theories and development stages and needs Knowledge of current trends, theories and technologies pertaining to learning and instruction Knowledge of assessment procedures and techniques, test construction and evaluation methods Knowledge of instructional strategies, techniques and interventions related to job assignment The skill and ability to communicate &#8211; both orally and in writing &#8195; Qualifications: Education: Minimum Bachelor&#8217;s Degree Experience: Teaching experience preferred, but not required Licenses: Valid Minnesota teacher certification required or willingness to obtain certification Certification: Learning disabilities preferred About the School: Athlos Academy of St. Cloud is a public, tuition-free K-9 charter school.
