HLA-N is currently seeking a hard-working, passionate, and goal-oriented educator to join our team as our Dean of Specialized Instruction for the 2019-2020 school year. Job Description The Dean of Specialized Instruction is responsible for supporting a powerful vision for student achievement. The Dean of Specialized Instruction leads the school&#8217;s special education team and oversees the student support service providers. The Dean of Specialized Instruction will work under the direction of the Principal and in collaboration with classroom teachers and network Director of Student Support Services. Responsibilities Special Education and Campus-Wide Leadership: * Serve as a member of the campus leadership team * Develop strong school mindsets about support for students with IEPs and the potential of every student * Lead weekly meetings with the Special Education staff to collaborate on student support, analyze data and engage in professional development * Supervise and manage special education staff * Provide site-based coaching and development for teachers (both Special and General Education teachers) Special Education Team Coaching and Management: * Coach and manage Special Education staff members, including teachers and paraeducators * Meet regularly with teachers to review caseload data and identify students who are not making adequate growth * Research, design, and support implementation of academic interventions to ensure students with IEPs are making significant academic growth * Collaborate with teacher and other school leaders to develop strong co-teaching practices Case Management Support: * Support teachers with due process management, including timelines and due process responsibilities * Support new Special Education staff to develop knowledge and skill of due process requirements * Hold teachers accountable for completing all due process related requirements * Ensure students receive mandates services, accommodations, and modifications * Ensure data systems remain up-to-date with information about students with IEPs Manage School-Wide Intervention Systems: * Observe and coach each intervention group at least monthly * Review intervention data on 6-week cycles to determine gaps in intervention implementation and identify students making insufficient progress * Lead weekly Child Study Team (CST) meetings and maintain a tracker of the status of students reviewed by the CST Relationship-Building: * Build effective relationships among teachers, families, and the community to improve student performance * Contribute to an effective, collaborative team of people jointly responsible for the attainment of school goals and committed to achieving excellence * Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position, while serving as a contributing member of the school team and a dedicated role model for other employees Perform other duties as required and assigned Staff must demonstrate knowledge of and support Hiawatha Academies&#8217; mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior. Hours are subject to change.

Hiawatha Employment Logistics

  • Hiawatha Leadership Academy – Northrop students’ school day is from 7:10 am-3:00 pm, Monday-Thursday and 7:10 am-1:15 pm on Friday.
  • Teachers must be present from 7:00 am-3:15 pm, Monday-Friday or until all duties are completed to be ready for the following day.
  • Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 1:40 pm-3:15 pm.
  • All Hiawatha Staff are expected to attend and participate in all family events at the school.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • A current Minnesota teaching license in Special Education or the ability to attain a Special Education teaching license
