The school is now recruiting dynamic educators for the 2019-20 school year. Hmong College Prep Academy&#8217;s mission is to provide the best integrated, challenging, and well-rounded educational experience to students in grades K-12. We are currently seeking a dedicated and energetic High School Special Education Teacher, preferably someone with a Math background, to join our growing school. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children of diverse ethnic backgrounds in an urban school setting. This 1.0 FTE High School Special Education Teacher will be instrumental in creating a flexible High School program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. They will motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for life after high school and post-secondary education. They will build rapport and establish good relationships with students, parents, staff members and the community. Hmong College Prep Academy stands out as a high quality school for both teachers and students and demonstrates this in many ways: * Low 20:1 teacher/student ratio * Strong technology focus with 1:1 Android tablets for students * Standard student uniform policy * Robust professional development and mentoring program for teachers * Pitsco STEM lab * Recognized by the Minnesota Department of Education as a Celebration School * Academic and extracurricular activities/teams such as Mock Trial, Band, Choir, Soccer and Volleyball * World Culture Day * College preparation programs and activities, such as a Big 10 Tour and college and career fairs Duties/Responsibilities: * Provide support in all academic areas and effectively instruct students in a small group setting and/or the general education classroom. * Plan accommodations/modifications necessary to provide access to students with disabilities to the core curriculum. * IEP Team meetings * Implementation of special education services provided to students with exceptional needs * Collection of relevant information for students referred to the IEP program team * Organization and distribution of special education media and materials for resources in general education classrooms * Develop and submit weekly and long range lesson plans containing standards, objectives, essential questions, and assessments; assign lessons and review homework. * Create and implement student intervention plans when necessary for students with special education program and general education students. * Provide support and supervision of students as assigned (during transitions, in special classes, during lunch, on the playground, etc.) * Monitor and follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) * Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Effective communicator with strong oral and written skills that work with all audiences * Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and perseverance in dealing with challenging learning, behavioral, family, and classroom situations * Demonstrate ability to observe, evaluate, report, and record students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health * Strong interpersonal skills to include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, district staff and community members from diverse backgrounds. * Ability to evaluate student performance and to present evaluations in a manner that fosters higher student achievement. * Ability to plan and implement lessons based upon district and schools goals and objectives. * Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and writing. * Ability to work in a cooperative learning environment. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor&#8217;s or Master&#8217;s degree or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. * A Minnesota Teaching license in the area of Special Education * 1-2 years of experience in working with students in a school setting. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A  Minnesota Teaching license in the area of Special Education 
  • 1-2 years of experience in working with students in a school setting.
