LAURA JEFFREY ACADEMY is the first STEM-focused urban middle school with a girl-focused curriculum. POSITION: Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher (Full time) DATES OF POSITION: Mid-September 2019 to December 20, 2019 PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES - Carry out requirements of Individual Education Plans and serve as case manager. - Promptly meet due process and progress monitoring deadlines. - Work directly with individual students and groups of students in daily classes/activities. - Implement instructional strategies in cooperation with the general classroom teacher. - Communicate with parents/guardians in a timely manner. - Work collaboratively and maintain positive and constructive communication with students, staff, and parents/guardians to reinforce the educational program for each student. - Participate in staff meetings and meetings regarding student progress. - Utilize proactive behavior management techniques, reinforcing positive behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques, and redirecting inappropriate behaviors. Other duties: - Engage in reflective practices to improve the quality of your professional service. - Serve on an educator-led school committee. - Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in areas of the school. QUALIFICATIONS: - A bachelor&#8217;s degree with coursework in education or related field, and a current teaching license from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) in Special Education - Passion for working with 5th-8th grade scholars with unique learning and behavioral needs - Ability to perform basic functions using technology including word processing and data entry - Cultural competence in working with students and families of color SALARY: $180-200/day based on qualifications TO APPLY: Send cover letter and resume to annar@laurajeffreyacademy.org<mailto:annar@laurajeffreyacademy.org> Position is open until filled.
