Social Studies 7-12/General Education Teacher/Advisor

The Vermilion Country School (VCS) is a grades 7-12 public charter school serving the Lake Vermilion area in Minnesota&#8217;s North Country. We currently have a half-time position open. The position includes teaching middle and high school social studies, and one or two other classes based on the teacher's area of interest (elective classes). The remainder of the position may be able to be filled with other duties, such as special ed paraprofessional. Teacher/Advisors work as mentors for approximately 15-22 students in the completion of VCS curriculum and Minnesota graduation requirements. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: &#9679; facilitating academic and personal goal-setting &#9679; monitoring progress &#9679; communicating with parents/guardians &#9679; teaching classes/electives &#9679; leading field explorations &#9679; records maintenance Teacher/Advisors take on additional duties as necessary according to availability, interests, and talents; while also performing an active role on site-based leadership and service teams. Teacher/Advisors will take part in additional training. Qualifications: &#8226; Current MN licensure in any of several subjects, including but not limited to: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Industrial Arts, Music, Art, Physical Education, Middle Level, Technology, Special Ed., or Foreign Languages. Two years previous teaching experience preferred, but not required. &#8226; Experience or familiarity with project-based and experiential learning, or a passion for innovative and student-centered educational models. &#8226; Skills and demeanor to maintain a positive and nurturing school climate. &#8226; A strong desire to actively participate in the creation of a supportive learning community, including possible service on the school&#8217;s governing board. &#8226; Demonstrate a willingness to go &#8220;above-and-beyond&#8221; the role of a typical traditional classroom teacher.
