We are a K-12 charter school located in St. Paul, Minnesota that empowers students to use their personal attributes and acquired knowledge to lead productive lives and become contributing members of the global community. This year, STEP Academy is expanding, adding additional classes due to community demand. We are seeking many talented, positive staff members. The Position: The Dean of Students is in charge of overseeing the behavior planning and response systems for students in grades K-12 within a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. With the behavior team, the individual in this role will be responsible for working through behaviors with students, assigning consequences according to the STEP Academy Family Handbook, planning and supporting behavior interventions, communicating with staff and parents, and documenting behavior incidents. In addition, he or she will collaborate with and oversee the Assistant Dean of Students and other behavior team staff. The Dean of Students will be a member of the academic leadership team and in charge of the following leadership duties: managing lunchroom supervisors, planning and executing PBIS reward field trips, overseeing attendance management, and collecting, maintaining, and reporting behavior data. In addition, the Dean of Students will serve as PBIS/Envoy staff coach and provide support and professional development in these areas. Minimum Qualifications: Minnesota teaching license, 2+ years of successful experience with student behavior management. A positive, supportive approach to dealing with student behaviors. A compassionate committment to supporting and problem solving with students from diverse backgrounds in an urban environment. Preferred Qualifications: MA in education, three or more years of classroom teaching experience. Administrative license and/or experience in school leadership. Experience with PBIS, Envoy, and/or restorative practices. Somali speaker is a plus.
