Job Description The Special Education teacher is responsible for supporting a powerful vision for student achievement based on Hiawatha&#8217;s Five Guiding Principles and for motivating others toward the realization of that vision. The Special Education teacher will provide direct instruction to students with identified special education needs and strategically support the general education staff with implementation of Individualized Education Plans. The Special Education Teacher will work under the direction of the Principal and in collaboration with classroom teachers. Candidates that are selected for an interview will receive additional information regarding the specific roles and responsibilities for the position. Responsibilities General Responsibilities * Foster a school climate that promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff and parents, and supports the school&#8217;s mission * Build effective relationships among teachers, parents, and the community to improve school culture * Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position, while serving as a contributing member of the school team and a dedicated role model for other employees and for students Planning, Instruction and Case Management * Write, implement, and track the goals for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) * Assist in the initial and three year re-evaluation of students to determine qualification and need for special education services including conducting achievements testing, data collection, observations, interviews, and functional behavior assessments * Provide direct academic and behavioral instruction and support for students with identified learning needs in the general education classroom * Provide individual and group instruction in reading, math, and/or writing * Provide individual and group support for social/emotional skills * Work closely with other members of the Special Education and Student Support Team and general education staff to ensure high quality service is being provided for all students * Complete all intellectual prep and instructional prep for any co-taught, individual or group instruction. * Participate on the Child Study Team by attending meetings and supporting with the implementation of interventions to meet the needs of struggling learners with or without special education needs * Maintain compliant special education records * Use student achievement data from the NWEA MAP test, STEP Literacy Assessment and on-going formative assessments to monitor progress, inform instruction and planning for students with IEPs * Work diligently to ensure that all students meet their individual learning growth goals * Perform other duties as required and assigned Special Education Teachers must demonstrate knowledge of and support Hiawatha Academies&#8217; mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior. Job Description
The Special Education teacher is responsible for supporting a powerful vision for student achievement based on Hiawatha’s Five Guiding Principles and for motivating others toward the realization of that vision. Planning, Instruction and Case Management


  • Write, implement, and track the goals for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)

  • Assist in the initial and three year re-evaluation of students to determine qualification and need for special education services including conducting achievements testing, data collection, observations, interviews, and functional behavior assessments

  • Provide direct academic and behavioral instruction and support for students with identified learning needs in the general education classroom

  • Provide individual and group instruction in reading, math, and/or writing

  • Provide individual and group support for social/emotional skills

  • Work closely with other members of the Special Education and Student Support Team and general education staff to ensure high quality service is being provided for all students

  • Complete all intellectual prep and instructional prep for any co-taught, individual or group instruction.

Hiawatha Employment Logistics

  • Hiawatha Leadership Academy – Northrop students’ school day is from 7:10 am-3:00 pm, Monday-Thursday and 7:10 am-1:15 pm on Friday.

  • Teachers must be present from 7:00 am-3:15 pm, Monday-Friday or until all duties are completed to be ready for the following day.

  • Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 1:40 pm-3:15 pm.

  • All Hiawatha Staff are expected to attend and participate in all family events at the school.



Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • MN Teaching Licensure: Special Education EBD and/or LD (dual license preferred)
