Job Description The Student Behavior Specialist is responsible for setting a tone of joy, discipline, and student achievement throughout the school. They will work under the guidance of the HCP-Northrop&#8217;s Dean of Students to support classroom teachers, school-wide systems, the middle school Principal, and, of course, students. This role unites maintaining discipline and building culture. We passionately believe that smooth and effective culture systems and accountability allow the instructional team to focus on closing the achievement gap, preparing every student for success in college and in life. Responsibilities General Responsibilities * Foster a school climate that promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff and parents, and supports the school&#8217;s mission * Build and foster effective relationships with all HCP-N students * Build effective relationships among teachers, parents, and the community to improve school culture * Support a joyful and engaging school culture where all students can be their best * Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position, while serving as a contributing member of the school team and a dedicated role model for other employees and for students Student Culture and Discipline * With the Dean of Students, manage all systems and communication around all disciplinary consequences, including detentions, suspensions, expulsions, and parental contacts * Maintain strong relationships with students, families, and staff * With the Dean of Students, conduct proactive and reactive disciplinary meetings with students and families * Run school culture and behavior reports on a regular basis * With the Dean of Students, conduct regular analysis of student behavior (Who is receiving what consequences, where? For what? What can we do to help students make better choices? Etc.) * Escort students from the main office or from the Dean of Students&#8217; office to class as needed * Escort students from class when needed * Conduct locker and/or backpack checks when needed Systems Management * Oversee breakfast, lunch, dismissal, detention and/or in school suspension daily * Oversee lunchtime and after school student reflection * Support the Dean of Students in managing the all student support structures * Maintain and log proactive and reactive family communication * Maintain and log proactive and reactive staff and teacher communication Perform other duties as required and assigned The Student Behavior Specialist must demonstrate knowledge of and support Hiawatha Academies&#8217; mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior Core Values and Beliefs All Hiawatha Staff must demonstrate a passionate belief in and commitment to the following core values and equity vision: 1) Children are at the center of everything we do. 2) Our mission requires bold thought and action. 3) We choose optimism. 4) We push ourselves to improve. 5) We are stronger together. 6) We create fun and a little weirdness. Job Description 

The Student Behavior Specialist is responsible for setting a tone of joy, discipline, and student achievement throughout the school. Responsibilities

  • Build and foster effective relationships with all HCP-N students
  • Build effective relationships among teachers, parents, and the community to improve school culture
  • Support a joyful and engaging school culture where all students can be their best 
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position, while serving as a contributing member of the school team and a dedicated role model for other employees and for students 

 

Student Culture and Discipline 

  • With the Dean of Students, manage all systems and communication around all disciplinary consequences, including detentions, suspensions, expulsions, and parental contacts
  • Maintain strong relationships with students, families, and staff
  • With the Dean of Students, conduct proactive and reactive disciplinary meetings with students and families
  • Run school culture and behavior reports on a regular basis
  • With the Dean of Students, conduct regular analysis of student behavior (Who is receiving what consequences, where?  For what?  What can we do to help students make better choices?  Etc.) 
  • Escort students from the main office or from the Dean of Students’ office to class as needed 
  • Escort students from class when needed 
  • Conduct locker and/or backpack checks when needed

  • Oversee lunchtime and after school student reflection

Hiawatha Employment Logistics

 

Hours are subject to change.

·         Hiawatha College Prep – Northrop students’ school day is from 7:25am-3:00pm, Monday-Thursday and 7:25am-1:15pm on Friday.

·         Staff must be present from 7:00am-3:45pm, Monday-Thursday.

·         Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 1:30pm-4:30pm.

·         All Hiawatha Staff are expected to attend and participate in all Family Events at the school, including evening events throughout the year.
