HLA-Northrop currently serves kindergarten through fourth-grade scholars. As a school we recognize that there is a strong link between academic success and social-emotional learning. We believe every adult in the school is responsible for creating an environment that promotes a sense of belonging, significance and emotional safety for all students so they are able to focus on learning. We know that all students are able to meet high expectations for both learning and behavior when they receive the support they need to do so. In 2018, Hiawatha Academies launched a specialized special education program for students in second through fourth grade with more significant development and cognitive disabilities. This program is committed to providing students with individualized and responsive instruction which holds students to high expectations. HLA-Northrop paraprofessional are charged with providing a rigorous, fast-paced, and highly structured learning environment for their scholars. We are looking for a highly qualified paraprofessional to join our school team. Hiawatha Employment Logistics

Hiawatha Leadership Academy – Northrop students’ school day is from 7:10 am-3:00 pm, Monday-Thursday and 7:10 am-1:15 pm on Friday.

  • Teachers must be present from 7:00 am-3:15 pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 1:45 pm-3:15 pm.
  • All Hiawatha Staff are expected to attend and participate in all family events at the school.


Skills & Qualifications


Required:

• Minimum of two years college education or bachelor’s degree

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills

• Ability to work with diverse student populations


Highly Preferred:

• Knowledge of special education law or experience working with identified special needs

• Elementary or special education teaching license preferred

• Bilingual or multilingual
