Position Begins: mid-August 2020 Status: Full-time, Exempt Department: Instructional, Upper School Job Description: This is an on-going, full-time appointment open to applicants with the expertise and acumen to teach Spanish effectively and thoughtfully. The position begins in mid-August 2020. The ideal candidate will have strong academic training and expertise in the study of world languages, with a special emphasis on the ability to teach upper-level Spanish courses as needed. Candidates must have experience developing differentiated units, lesson plans, and assessments that utilize authentic texts to develop the communication skills of all learners in all three modes. As importantly, we seek a candidate who has a demonstrated passion for working with young people, and who believes deeply that exposing students to diverse ideas, peoples, and cultures is essential to the successful teaching of world languages. The most successful candidates will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals. Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration and communication with both colleagues and students, is required. Candidates should support the mission of SPA, the vision of the Upper School, and be eager to join a professional community where openness to growth is the norm.
