ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: Plymouth Christian Youth Center (PCYC) is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) community-based organization with a 63-year history of providing services to youth, families and individuals on a non-sectarian basis. PCYC&#8217;s mission is to enrich the skills, prospects and spirit of North Minneapolis youth and adults, in partnership with families and communities. This mission is carried out through an array of award-winning programs, including PCYC Arts and Tech High School, Out-of-School Time programs, and the Capri Theater. POSITION SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to provide expertise to help students make progress against the achievement gap. PCYC teachers must have a thorough understanding of how best practices in assessment, student engagement, and cultural relevancy can be leveraged to maximize student achievement. Educator will work in conjunction with their team to develop rigorous, standards-based courses that are differentiated to meet the needs of all PCYC scholars and that include some project-based learning. PCYC teachers are dedicated to creating a positive learning environment that facilitates the personal, social, and intellectual development of all students. Teachers work closely with parents, the administration, other staff, other PCYC programs and the Minneapolis Public Schools, under moderate supervision. To perform this job successfully, you must be able to carry out each job function satisfactorily. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: * Learn, support, and help achieve the PCYC school improvement goals. * Establish developmentally appropriate instructional and behavioral expectations for students and for self and communicate those to students and their families. * Create lessons and learning environments that are safe, respectful, inclusive, interesting, and developmentally appropriate. * Integrate arts and reading strategies into curriculum. * Teach students standards-based curricula using strategies that foster critical thinking, reasoning, and problem solving. * Collaborate and communicate regularly with families in making educational decisions; use family and community resources to support learning. * Assess students&#8217; developmental, cognitive, and social needs; provide developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs. * Regularly assess student learning by using multiple forms of assessment. * Facilitate positive interactions between student and teacher, student and peers, and student and other adults. * Model learning and behavior consistent with the expectations for students. * Participate in ongoing and regular staff, team, and individual professional development. * Collaborate with peers in PLC&#8217;s to develop, plan, and implement best practices based on the needs and abilities of the students. * Always consider the students&#8217; needs and rights first and foremost in any educational decision making. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: * Bachelor&#8217;s Degree from an accredited university. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Prior successful experience student teaching or teaching in an urban, multicultural education setting. * Demonstrates continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration and/or job-embedded staff development. Licenses and/or Certifications: * A valid Minnesota teaching license in subject area (or eligible for waiver).
