POSITION PURPOSE The High School Yearbook Instructor is responsible for advising and overseeing the production of a school-wide yearbook within the requested deadline of the yearbook vendor. The High School Yearbook class is open to any academically qualified student in grades 9-12. The total cost of the yearbook is raised through advertising, yearbook sales, and additional fundraising if necessary. In accordance with district policies and procedures, the instructor is responsible for editing and supervising the publication of the yearbook. He/she is responsible to teach students about all aspects of yearbook publication through an academic course. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. * Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. * Teaches journalistic skills (photography, layout, copywriting, etc.) * Prepares yearbook for publication * Works with the publisher to create a budget, deadlines, production schedule, payment options, etc * Manages production schedules and meets publisher deadlines * Meets with Principal to review goals for the yearbook * Implements yearbook sales drive * Assigns coverage of all events and monitors student coverage of events * Edits and proofreads all articles and advertisements. * Finalizes book after conclusion of school year to cover spring events * Submits to assistant director the theme, story, and photo ideas prior to production. Obtains assistant director&#8217;s approval for yearbook spreads prior to printing * Responsible for yearbook staff in the performance of their duties * Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required * Orders all supplies and materials necessary for the yearbook activities in accordance with established district procedures and budget allocations * Encourages students to be creative, yet appropriate in yearbook content. * Maintains positive, professional relationships and use appropriate verbal, non-verbal and written communication with all individuals * Regular, prompt attendance PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching during the day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. MENTAL DEMANDS The mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
