Prairie Five Head Start Position: Head Start Teacher Reports To: Education Manager Location: Madison Head Start Classroom Salary: Based on education and experience Status: Regular Part Time/Non-Exempt Hours: 22-40 per week, depending on class size, and 9-10 months of the year DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: 1. AA or AS degree in education or child development. 2. Pre-K Certificate/BA or BS degree in Early Childhood Education. 3. BA or BS in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education. 4. BA or BS degree in education or child development with experience teaching preschool children. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Continued training in Early Childhood Education. (2% of hours worked) 2. Experience with preschool children in educational settings. 3. Ability to implement appropriate curriculum in the classroom. 4. Ability to create an environment that is conductive to learning. 5. Ability to relate to children and their parents in the program. 6. Work experience in Community Service based programming preferred. 7. Past or present Head Start parent or student preferred. 8. Be dependable and punctual. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum as approved by the program. 2. Develop age appropriate lesson plans with children’s input/interests. 3. Facilitate students’ learning through open ended questioning. 4. Assess children’s’ progress using the Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment, three times each year. 5. Keep room safe, clean and attractive for students. 6. Encourage parents to participate in Parent Meetings, training opportunities and volunteering in the classroom. 7. Train volunteers in classroom routines and duties. 8. Provide parent education materials frequently through the program year. 9. Attend monthly Parent Meeting and provide monthly calendars and newsletters of classroom happenings and events. 10. Turn in monthly reports/lesson plans/ home visit plans as requested. 11. Complete and submit referrals or placements as appropriate 12. Dependable attendance/call supervisor if absent. Application Deadline: Position open until filled.
