POSITION SUMMARY: This position works closely with both the Director of Director of Student Services (DSS) and the School Counselors to oversee specialized instruction for SWCHS students with learning needs. The role of the Learning Specialist is to support students with different learning styles by providing intervention and remediation; support teachers in their efforts to advance students with different learning needs within the classroom; and to work with parents, students, and outside professionals in order to better support special needs students. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Specialized Instruction &#8226; Assist Director of Student Services (DSS) and District Counselor in coordinating District 112 Services for qualifying SWCHS students. &#8226; Inform SWCHS classroom teachers of district services that are being received by SWCHS students. &#8226; Work with SWCHS classroom teachers to integrate district services into the SWCHS program when feasible. &#8226; Work with parents of students with diagnosed conditions that impact school performance or that have demonstrated need for support to determine the adaptations and/or modifications that are necessary to ensure success in the classroom. &#8226; Establish and maintain frequent communication with parents about their student&#8217;s academic, social, and emotional needs. &#8226; Keep DSS informed when student needs become significant in terms of what is expected of SWCHS staff to consider if student is properly placed in SWCHS program and/or in specific courses. &#8226; Work with DSS and school counselors to create Individual Learning Plan (ILP) for each student that is to receive specialized instruction to provide to teachers. Obtain parent input and approval before disbursing ILPs to teachers. &#8226; Meet with all SWCHS classroom teachers to review the requirements of the ILPs of each of their students and to assist them in integrating the services called for in the ILP into their instructional procedures and methods whenever feasible. &#8226; Assist classroom teachers in developing plans for differentiated instruction by adjusting, modifying, and enriching curricular approaches and improving pedagogy; assist in carrying out these plans in the classroom when available or through indirect services. &#8226; Ensure that the needs of all students requiring specialized administration for finals and standardized tests are met appropriately. &#8226; Work with DSS to support the needs of students with special circumstances. &#8226; Oversee Learning Lab sections each semester as assigned by SWCHS Head of School and/or DSS. Additional Duties &#8226; Teach Study Skills course as requested by SWCHS Head of School and/or DSS. &#8226; Adheres to strict student confidentiality. &#8226; Performs other tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate by SWCHS Head of School and/or DSS. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Required &#8226; Bachelor&#8217;s degree in relevant field (Special Education &#8211; LD, EBD, etc.). &#8226; Understanding of State and Federal Special Education Laws. &#8226; Strong written and verbal communication skills. &#8226; Strong interpersonal skills. &#8226; Demonstrated ability to stay organized and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment. &#8226; Assists students in recognizing that they are created in the image of God, are His perfect Workmanship, and are thus valuable and greatly loved in His eyes. &#8226; Assists students in accepting their differences and challenges as part of who God created them to be and helps them to learn to overcome those challenges in order to accomplish all that God has set in place for them to accomplish, both now and in their adult lives. &#8226; Motivated, self-starter who has the ability to manage changing priorities. &#8226; Ability to appropriately handle confidential, sensitive information. &#8226; Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs. &#8226; Possess strong Christian faith with demonstrated character of integrity and personal reference. &#8226; Demonstrates a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and knowledge of God&#8217;s Word. Preferred &#8226; 2+ years of special education work experience. &#8226; Previous experience writing public school IEP&#8217;s, ISP&#8217;s, and 504 Plans.
