Reading/Spanish Teacher Full-Time El Colegio Charter School is a public, tuition-free high school with an affiliated after-school program located in the vibrant and ethnically diverse Bancroft neighborhood of south Minneapolis. Mission: Rooted in the Latino experience, El Colegio builds upon the talents of bilingual, bicultural students and their families to provide the academic rigor, leadership skills, college and career preparation, and community connections necessary to become lifelong leaders and change agents. Vision: Minneapolis will be transformed by the knowledge, skills, and leadership of Latino students and their families. Core Values: El Colegio is distinct from traditional schools in its embrace of four values that permeate all aspects of its work with youth: identity, community, intellect, and social justice. Responsibilities of the Position Curriculum and Instruction Teachers at El Colegio are innovative and seek to enact cultural competent practices, with a foundation in the praxis of Paulo Freire and Barrio pedagogy. All curriculum and instruction should strongly reflect the mission, vision, and values of the school. * Assist in development of curriculum standards and mapping across the school that uphold the mission, vision and values of the school. * Create and execute a scope and sequence and long-term plans in conjunction with other school faculty. * Develop and execute daily/weekly engaging lesson plans to ensure student learning that demonstrate cultural competence and meet the MN state standards. * Differentiate instruction to ensure that all students are progressing. * Embrace strong language acquisition pedagogy across all content areas. * Work to ensure that all IEPs and student needs are met both within and outside of the classroom. * Create a classroom environment that is culturally competent, engaging and respects the dignity, maturity and interests of the students. * Work collaboratively with other teachers to create real world, project based units to explore complex problems and critical thinking that rest on the core values of El Colegio in innovative two week &#8220;Synthesis&#8221; sessions. Data, reflection, and constant learning Teachers are expected to reflect on multiple forms of data (standardized test data, classroom assessments, Gallup Hope Survey data) to understand how students are holistically in order to improve their professional practice. * With support from School Leaders and the professional learning community, use data to drive instructional practices to constantly improve student achievement and instruction. * Seek to constantly develop and improve teaching practices by developing a personal professional learning goal and meet the goal through coaching with the Academic Dean and self-identified resources. School culture and professionalism As a small school, teachers are expected to take up many different roles of leadership in support of the school mission. Teachers hold themselves to high levels of professionalism. * Engage in a rich professional learning community that meets regularly after school to build a strong academic and school culture. * Keep accurate data necessary to the functioning of the school. * Participate in the cultural events that are the heart of El Colegio, such as Dia de los Muertos, Mi Corazon, Senior Project Presentations, etc. * Abide by the rules and regulations that govern the teaching profession for the state. * Maintain professionalism at all times. Minimum Qualifications * Strong personal connection with the mission, vision and core values of El Colegio and a desire to proficiently meet the responsibilities of the position. * Passion for being a part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture. * Collaborative approach to education that values deep relationships with families and community. * Flexible and a self-starter. * Excellent written and oral communication skills. * Minnesota&#8217;s teaching license or a BA in the core subject and enrolled in a teacher preparation program. Preferred Qualities * At least two years teaching experience in an urban context with demonstrated student success. * Experience working with English Language Learners and/or Dual Language Literacy. * Bilingual and/or bicultural. * Master&#8217;s degree in a content area or Education. Student Day The El Colegio student schedule is from 9:05 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Friday from 9:05 a.m. &#8211; 2:12 p.m. Teachers are expected to be in the building at 8:30-4:15 p.m. Compensation Salary for this position is based on experience and abilities and the El Colegio Board of Directors approves annual salary adjustments.
