Hiawatha College Prep - Kingfield (grades 5-8) seeks a dedicated Part-time English Language Development teacher and teammate to join our team in the 2020-2021 school year. This role has an immediate start date. Job Description The Part-time English Language Development (ELD) teacher is responsible for providing rigorous, standards-based, and highly engaging learning environments for their scholars. The ELD teacher will support language development through co-teaching, sheltered instruction, and coordination of ACCESS and WIDA assessments. We are seeking a teacher who celebrates language diversity and is passionate about supporting the development of scholars&#8217; academic language through research-based strategies. All teachers will strive to ensure that all Hiawatha Academies scholars are empowered with the knowledge, character and leadership skills to graduate from college and serve the common good. Responsibilities: English Language Development * Apply the practices of sheltered English instruction to provide English language development to students who are English language learners * Co-teach alongside grade level homeroom teachers * Provide individual and group instruction for identified students * Ensure that all students identified as English language learners receive the appropriate academic supports * Manage and coordinate ACCESS testing Instructional Planning and Implementation * Implement assessments that are aligned with daily, weekly, and unit objectives * Use data to adjust short- and long-term plans in order to meet students&#8217; learning needs Learning and Development * Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement * Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and student achievement; reflect on instructional practices to meet individual professional development goals * Actively participate in professional development, grade level, and community meetings School and Classroom Culture * Establish and maintain relationships with students and families based on trust and regular communication; collaborate and communicate regularly with families about academic progress and behavior * Establish and maintain high expectations and routines for academic work and classroom behavior * Establish and reinforce expectations and accountability structures to maintain a positive, focused classroom Additional Responsibilities * Maintain accurate records, grade book, and data tracking systems * Actively attend to supervision duties and contribute positively to a collaborative school environment Perform other duties as required and assigned Teachers must demonstrate knowledge and support of Hiawatha Academies&#8217; mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior. Hiawatha Employment Logistics * Hiawatha College Prep - Kingfield students&#8217; school day is from 8:40am-4:15pm, Monday-Thursday and 8:40am-2:30pm on Friday. * Teachers must be present from 8:15am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. * Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 2:55pm-4:30pm. * All Hiawatha Staff are expected to attend and participate in all Family Events (conferences, academic fairs, beginning of year overnight trip, etc.) at the school.   • Manage and coordinate ACCESS testing

Instructional Planning and Implementation

  • Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement

School and Classroom Culture

  • Establish and maintain relationships with students and families based on trust and regular communication; collaborate and communicate regularly with families about academic progress and behavior

  • Establish and reinforce expectations and accountability structures to maintain a positive, focused classroom
