Paraprofessional Job Description/Responsibilities: Primary purpose: To support the classroom teacher and advance HCPA educational programs and create a classroom environment that is conductive to teaching, learning, and personal growth in accordance with each faculty member&#8217;s and student&#8217;s ability. To base one&#8217;s assistance to the classroom teacher on the premise that all children can learn and will learn to their highest potential. Instructional Support * Under the supervision of a licensed teacher; provide instruction to students regarding study skills, reading decoding, reading for a purpose, math strategies, instruction for student to understand and use math facts, science, social studies, etc.. * Tutor and assist students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities. * Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups to master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by classroom teacher. * Use the Lesson Plan Formats developed by licensed teachers to implement instructional support; present lessons to large groups to enable classroom teacher to work with small group, etc. * Use information provided during professional development and training sessions (when applicable) to strengthen instruction by incorporating appropriate strategies in group activities under the direction of the classroom teacher. * Include instructional strategies taught by licensed teachers to focus on learning needs of HCPA students in daily classroom support and activities. * Perform hall monitoring, bus duties and lunch room monitoring duties * Assist in all school events, activities, and sport program, and school functions * Assume other requirements deemed necessary by the supervisor or his/her designee. Hall Monitor Duties/Responsibilities: * Ensure the hallways are clear and safe * Ensure there are no students lingering in halls, bathrooms, stairways, etc * Ensure students enter their appropriate classrooms * Assist leadership team in ongoing marketing campaign: develop school flyers and marketing materials for student recruitment * Do ongoing home visits to market HA school programs and enroll new students * Assist in ongoing parents/student outreach and/or phone calls to current parents/students to retain current enrolled students * Completing any additional tasks as deemed necessary by the leadership team Skills/Abilities: * Able to provide professional development in programs and services * Strong time management, written and oral skills * Motivated high performer with excellent organization skills * Establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with students, parents, teachers and other school staff * Operate office equipment and machines such as fax machines, copies, phone systems, postage machine and computers. * Ability to manage multiple tasks at once * Remain calm in emergency and stressful situations Specific Qualifications: * Must have a BA/BS in a core subject area such as English, Mathematics, or Science. An equivalent amount of coursework or related professional experience may be considered. * Have at least 2-3 years of experience in a classroom setting. Other experience may be considered. * Have knowledge and understanding of curriculum and strategic planning. * Be knowledgeable using a PC computer and use Microsoft applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. * Use effective communication skills both oral and written, with the ability to give formal oral presentations to groups. * Be ready to work in a collegial and collaborative environment * Use excellent time management skills. Work Environment/Conditions: Reporting for duty: all employees are required to be on duty and ready for students per work schedule as allocated by the direct supervisor. Each employee is assigned a security &#8220;swipe-card&#8221; that keeps a record of all entries and exits. All employees are required to use the swipe-card when entering the building (even the front entrance) and when leaving the building. The attendance program will automatically keep an annual record of the entering and exiting time for all individuals. * Operate standard equipment (computer, fax machine, telephone, copier machines, etc.) * Complete additional job requirements that support and enhance teaching and learning, such as appropriate participation in professional development and training sessions; off-campus sessions, etc. * Fast pace work environment, ability to work 40 hours Tap Program Responsibilities: * Work to meet the requirements of the Quality Compensation Grant and Tap Program. * Attend cluster group meetings * Meetings should occur at least once a week for one hour. Career teachers are expected to attend and be prepared to participate in all aspects of the meeting. * Collaborate in the classroom with master and mentor teachers * In conjunction with cluster groups, career teachers will be paired with a master and a mentor teacher who will, in each teacher&#8217;s own classroom, provide instructional support to increase teacher expertise, and hence, student achievement. This team-teaching environment will allow the master/mentor teacher to observe the career teacher regularly. * Variations of this one-to-one pairing may occur, depending upon financial viability and the number of qualified teachers at a school site. * Participate in TAP&#8217;s Instructionally Focused Accountability System * All teachers in TAP schools will be evaluated 3 times during the year by multiple evaluators using the TAP Rubrics as the measurement tool. * With assistance from the master/mentor teachers, career teachers develop expertise through creating and maintaining an Individual Growth Plan (IGP). * In alignment with the teacher&#8217;s refinement area (as identified during the TAP evaluation process) and his/her students&#8217; academic needs, the teacher will be asked, with ongoing support from the master/mentor teachers, to develop and maintain a TAP IGP. * Career teachers work a traditional calendar year. Formal credential evaluation is required for post-secondary education completed outside of the United States.
