Basic responsibility includes the supervision of the Food and Nutrition Services staff, the directing and managing of Food and Nutrition Services to ensure high standards of nutrition, financial accountability, maintenance of safety and sanitation standards and effective marketing and communication and the development of Food and Nutrition Services&#8217; vision and mission. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned * Assigns, directs and assesses work of Food and Nutrition Services staff; handles hiring, transferring, promoting, disciplining and terminating personnel; completes employee performance evaluations; develops staff schedules. * Establishes employee performance standards; maintains personnel records. * Develops and maintains a departmental system for inservice training and professional growth. * Develops and updates policy and procedure manuals necessary for state and federal compliance. * Plans and evaluates nutritionally sound menus in compliance with USDA Meal Pattern Requirements for School Nutrition Programs, incorporating time-saving production techniques, effective merchandising, and nutrition education activities. * Plans modified menus to accommodate students with special dietary needs, and disseminates information to Food and Nutrition staff and parent/guardian(s). * Directs purchases of all food supplies and equipment according to established district policies and procedures. * Assures that sanitation and safety practices in all phases of the school food service operation meet established standards, using Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles. * Monitors food preparation methods, including quality, serving techniques, portion control, appearance and efficiency. * Involves students, staff, and community in Food and Nutrition Services activities. * Establishes a method of promoting the Food and Nutrition Program for Pine City Public Schools through social media and other marketing means. * Develops and maintains effective communication and public relations. * Establishes a School Wellness Committee made up of students, parents, staff and community members. * Directs preparing and serving of meals for special functions and community activities. * Communicates concerns to appropriate supervisor about policies and procedures relating to all Food and Nutrition Services employees and operations. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises Food and Nutrition Services personnel in high school and elementary school. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor&#8217;s degree or equivalent educational experience with academic major in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer science, nutrition education, culinary arts, business or related field preferred. Extensive relevant knowledge and experience in areas such as institutional food service operations, management, business and/or nutrition education. At least 8 hours of food safety training is required either not more than 5 years prior to the employee&#8217;s start date or completed within 30 days of the employee&#8217;s start date. Preferred Food Manager Certificate by the State Department of Health, Servsafe Certificate and School Nutrition Association Level 1, 2 or 3 Certificate. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of quantity food preparation, sanitation principles, menu planning, inventory control, record keeping, and production schedules. Previous experience in food service management. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of education policies. FOOD AND NUTRITION DIRECTOR

SUMMARY:  A person, who has the overall supervisory responsibility of the Pine City Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services operations.  Basic responsibility includes the supervision of the Food and Nutrition Services staff, the directing and managing of Food and Nutrition Services to ensure high standards of nutrition, financial accountability, maintenance of safety and sanitation standards and effective marketing and communication and the development of Food and Nutrition Services’ vision and mission.

Extensive relevant knowledge and experience in areas such as institutional food service operations, management, business and/or nutrition education. At least 8 hours of food safety training is required either not more than 5 years prior to the employee’s start date or completed within 30 days of the employee’s start date. Preferred Food Manager Certificate by the State Department of Health, Servsafe Certificate and School Nutrition Association Level 1, 2 or 3 Certificate. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
