CHOICE Technical Academy, Special Education Paraprofessional
Non-licensed Position
Full Time
$16/hour
Student-Centered Responsibilities:
* Works with individual students or small groups of students to maximize learning as directed by the Special Education Advisor.
* Assists licensed staff in implementing strategies for the reinforcement of learning based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, abilities, and Individualized Education Plans.
* Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods and on field trips.
* Participates in in-service training programs as approved.
* Performs other such duties/assignments as directed by the Special Education Advisor.
* Assists as directed by the Special Education Advisor in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the IEP.
* Collects data for the Special Education Team.
* Provides student transportation in a school van.
Scheduling:
* Follows the daily schedule as laid out by the Special Education Advisor.
* Daily schedules may be modified to meet special education needs.
* Summer hours may be necessary.
Common Expectations:
* Develop meaningful and appropriate relationships with all students.
* Develop and maintain the ability to use technology as an instructional tool.
* Assist with giving tours of CHOICE, communicating the mission and vision to guests, dissemination of the TAM model, and marketing of the school.
* Adhere to school policies, procedures, Minnesota State Statutes, and Federal Regulations.
* Follow the direction of the Board of Directors.
* Develop and carry out yearly professional development plan.
* Model kindness, empathy, rapport building and respect with parents, staff and students.
* Collaborate and learn with colleagues; be receptive to new ideas.
* Become familiar with school evacuation plans, maps, emergency procedures, and codes; supervise and provide leadership during emergencies.
* Assist with building cleaning and maintenance. Help keep and maintain a sanitary and organized environment.
* Coordinate summer hours as needed with the rest of the staff.
* Attend, plan, and chaperone school and community events; be willing to attend events outside the normal school day.
Qualifications:
* AA Degree or
* AS Degree or
* 2 yrs. of Post-Secondary Education (60 semester credits) or
* A high school diploma and a passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment Test.
* Clean driving record.
Preferred Skills
* Knowledge of child development
* Build relationships with students
* Flexible and patient
* Proficient communication skills
