Seeking Extraordinary Individuals Interested in Serving the Holistic Development of High School Students in an Educational Community Dedicated to the Pursuit of Academic, Cultural and Benedictine Values Saint John's Preparatory School is a Catholic/Benedictine, co-educational, day and boarding International Baccalaureate college preparatory school for students in grades 6-12, with boarding options beginning in the 9th grade. Saint John's Prep is located on the 3,000 acres of woods and lakes of Saint John's University's campus in central Minnesota. We are looking for talented, self-motivated, inspiring persons to serve as a Resident Director for the female dorm beginning August 1, 2021. Resident Directors work collaboratively to monitor and support Saint Michael Residence Hall, a newly renovated space. RD's are expected to utilize their independent judgment when making decisions related to residential students' supervision. They are expected to be prepared to make critical, sometimes life-impacting decisions as the first responder for students' needs in non-office hours, including night and weekends. RD's will oversee and interact dynamically with students in the hall; suggest, create and participate in activities; communicate with school personnel as needed; make decisions related to discipline and safety issues and administer medications in addition to other duties. Responsibilities: 1. Create an academically-focused residential environment that supports student success and learning through the Schoology program. During nightly "study mod" help students prioritize their academics, check for missing assignments, and assist in academic advising with the students for long term goals. Successfully merge student goals with teacher, guidance counselor, and parent communications to promote academic success. 2. Directly monitor and support the academic, emotional, developmental needs, and progress of residents and refer them to school resources as necessary. 3. Annually develop, implement, and promote educational and social programs grounded in our Residence Life curriculum to increase community sense. Merge programming ideas from best practices, student development theories, community models, and Benedictine Values, which encourage students' personal growth. 4. Communicate student issues with residence life staff, parents, faculty, and other support staff daily or as concerns arise. Create follow-up plans based on information from these sources as well. 5. Serve as personal counseling resource for students supporting residential/roommate conflicts, personal physical and mental health crises, acts of intolerance, and substance abuse situations. Work in collaboration with Director of Residential Life, Saint John's Prep Guidance Counselors, and parents and follow-up with students of concern. 6. To strengthen the bond to the rest of Saint John's Prep community, serve in an additional supervisory capacity during the school day as a recess/lunch monitor and substitute teacher for a set amount of classes and/or other roles with permission from the Director of Residential Life. 7. Monitor residential student attendance, academic progress, and service-learning requirements through Connect2Prep and Schoology report. 8. Monitor and promote community spaces, with residential and day students, after school in Saint Michael Hall. Resident Directors will schedule to supervise all students who stay beyond the bell (3:15 pm on school days) in the common spaces of Saint Michael Hall. 9. Demonstrate inclusive behavior and create a socially just community where differences are celebrated. Bring together students from many different countries to develop an internationally focused community. To make this community will require spending time to learn from the students and independent research on customs and culture to celebrate all students. 10. Actively represent the school to students, faculty, staff, and parents through effective communication, collaboration, and inclusion. Forging relationships with community partners, parents, students, and staff. 11. Create a positive school culture and oversees the holistic development of students. 12. Responsible for coordinating school safety programs, including disaster preparedness, emergency drills, safe environment training, and related safety training. 13. Understand the unique character of a diverse student community with a residency program. 14. Serve on an on-call rotation to cover nights and weekends and acts as the first responder to residential concerns and issues. As the first responder, your decision in crisis will be critical to our students' success and well-being. 15. Document any violations of the residential policies; serve as a conduct officer as needed. 16. Occasionally serve as a supervisor outside the residence hall on large scale programming efforts. 17. With parental permission and doctor approval, document and administer prescription medications to minors. 18. Transport students to medical appointments as needed. 19. Implement on-going safety and security plans for the residence hall. Monitor and report all building safety/security through building inspections, ensuring the maintenance of safety equipment. 20. Monitor and assess the physical environment of the residence hall. Facilitate the resolution of facility concerns, maintenance, repairs, and cleanliness. 21. Fiscal responsibility for allocated budgets for residence hall personnel and programming funds. 22. Perform other duties as assigned. Benefits and Remuneration: Compensation for this position includes a salary of $28,454 for a 10-month term of employment. Resident Directors also receive a partly furnished 2-bedroom, two-story apartment with kitchen and private bathroom, free community laundry, parking, utilities, and high speed internet access year-round. Summer Living: While the RD position is a 10-month appointment, we allow returning staff to remain in their apartments during the June and July non-working months. Stipends and summer provisional contracts may also be available for those wishing to gain further experience or compensation. Pet Policy: Only allowed animals in a tank under 60 gallons. The Abbey (campus) does not allow leashed or unleashed pets or domesticated animals on their Campus as it is a wildlife refuge.
