Minnesota Valley Education District is seeking a motivated and energetic Behavior Intervention Specialist to work with students in a school setting. Job Summary Under the direction of licensed special education staff, the Behavior Intervention Specialist serves to provide intervention for students with significant social and/or behavioral needs. Primary duties include implementing individual behavior plans, working in partnership with the teacher to provide support to the specialized instruction, skill instruction, behavioral data collection, and behavioral crisis intervention. Job Title: Behavior Intervention Specialist Location: MVED Member Districts Reports to: MVED Director of Special Education, Building Principals, MVED Special Education Coordinators Start date: August 2021 Salary: $25.62/hour Schedule: 8 hrs/day; follows teacher duty days Duties & Responsibilities: &#9679; Provide pro-social behavioral and social skills programming for students with disabilities to assist in effecting positive behavioral change in students. &#9679; Provide crisis intervention as a part of the application of positive behavior supports. &#9679; Assist in the planning and implementation of student behavior management strategies. &#9679; Supervise and work directly with students to address inappropriate behaviors and help them adopt behaviors that will help them become more academically successful. &#9679; Assist in teaching pro-social skills by modeling appropriate interactions, providing pro-social feedback, and holding students accountable for their choices and behaviors. &#9679; Assist classroom teachers and staff throughout the school day by providing support and behavioral interventions as needed. &#9679; Assist classroom teachers with behavior intervention planning and implementation as needed. &#9679; Participate in classroom debriefings each day to assist in behavior intervention planning and programming. &#9679; Meet with individual students as needed to support behavior interventions and student accountability. &#9679; Assist in the supervision of students in the school setting. &#9679; Process individual student behaviors/issues/concerns with students as needed. &#9679; Provide scoring for point sheets for student objectives during class and lunchtime. &#9679; Maintain supervision log and documentation each school day. &#9679; Maintain and protect confidential information regarding students and programming. &#9679; Participate in student team and/or IEP meetings, as needed. Qualifications and Skills Education and Experience: Required: &#9679; Bachelor&#8217;s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in education, psychology, or related field &#9679; Knowledge of behavioral management and techniques used with special needs populations &#9679; Experience working with students with social, emotional and/or behavioral needs Preferred: &#9679; Knowledge of positive intervention supports, behavior management, crisis response, de-escalation, and physical restraint &#9679; Two years&#8217; experience working with children in an organized setting &#9679; One year of experience observing and collecting student behavioral charting data Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: &#9679; Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus. &#9679; Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process. &#9679; Ability to collect, summarize, and graph behavioral data. &#9679; Ability to use and model research-based and evidence-based classroom management and individualized behavioral interventions. &#9679; Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, verbally and in writing, including electronic media. &#9679; Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes. &#9679; Ability to plan and facilitate social, recreational, and therapeutic groups. &#9679; Knowledge regarding the development and monitoring of individual student goals. &#9679; Ability to assist in the management of student behaviors in the classroom.
