Title: PARA 6 - Health Aide 2 / Licensed Practical Nurse Department: Special Education Group: EM SPARK Reports to: Director of Student Services DBM Classification: B23/8 Salary Range: $18.54 - $25.50 per hour Position#: 1740 Prepared Date: February 2016 FTE: .8125 FTE (6.5 hours per day) SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision, provides first-level, on-site Health Services independently at non-public sites. Health Aids will assist in creating an educational environment that is multicultural/gender and ability fair/developmentally appropriate, is favorable to learning and growth and is based on a commitment that all children can learn. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide first aid and episodic care to students and staff, and respond to emergencies as needed. * Under in-direct guidance of Licensed School Nurse, administer medications, feeding tubes and special treatments for students with chronic health issues; follow protocols, procedures, and written care plans. * Screen student for a variety of health care and environmental issues; track and evaluate infection control problems and follow up with clients according to protocols. * Interview students, listen to health care concerns, discuss treatment options, and determine health services required to treat a range of healthcare issues. * Conduct first stage screenings for all students in cooperation with the Health Related Services team and geographical cluster resources. * Make referrals to other members of the school health team. * Provide information and assistance on health services issues for students and families of students. * Verify and monitor the health and safety of students and staff in the facilities. * Maintain health records for staff and students and updates electronic files. * Maintain inventory of first aid supplies and equipment. * May also track student attendance and record data on computer systems. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES * Knowledge of District administrative procedures, policies and guidelines. * Knowledge of community resources, health agencies and social service organizations in the community. * Assessing, evaluating, planning and implementing health care and health care services within the District. * Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Parents / Guardians, employees, supervisors, department heads, and officials. * Computer skills of databases, reports, spreadsheets, documents, correspondence and E-mail. * State and Federal laws and regulatory issues governing public health, including rules and regulations of the Minnesota Department of health and other governing agencies. * Public health and safety protocols and regional healthcare issues. * Nutrition and health maintenance issues for children and young adults. * Astute Observation skills in monitoring students who come and go from the health office * Maintaining confidentiality and data privacy.
