Part-time ESL Consultant MN River Valley Education District

The Minnesota River Valley Education District, located in Montevideo, MN is seeking a positive and energetic individual to join our team as a part-time English as a Second Language (ESL) consultant. Candidates are required to hold a valid ESL license and should have at least three years of experience working with ESL programs. The MRVED Title III consortium consists of eleven districts who work collaboratively to provide ESL professional development and support to ESL programs. Many of the ESL programs are growing and experiencing a larger influx of newcomers. This new, consultant position provides support to local ESL programs and will assist with identifying and developing best practices related to supporting newcomers in rural schools. Duties will include the following: &#8226; Review EL programs in the districts and provide recommendations to improve programming. (Scheduling, teaching resources, etc.) &#8226; Ensure that all legal requirements are being met in each district. (I.e. Program manuals up to date, etc.) &#8226; Create a new EL teacher checklist and meet with new teachers in the consortium to provide training. &#8226; Research newcomer programs and help to identify solutions for districts who are experiencing an influx of newcomers. This may include developing plans for a newcomer center. &#8226; Identify resources for districts, such as bilingual counselors/therapists and programs that address social emotional learning for newcomers. &#8226; Identify and help districts with developing parent communication and outreach. &#8226; Work with district leadership in the development of this consultant position and its on-going responsibilities; We expect that the consultant will be able to work both virtually and on-site as needed. The amount of time required will be based on district needs and expected outcomes, and may vary throughout the school year.
