General Information This position will provide professional level staff assistance to support the programming activities of the Flipside Afterschool Program within the Community Education Department. It will provide program assistance to support communications, data base management, data collection, community collaborations and partnerships, professional development, sustainability efforts and summer programming. In addition this position is responsible for planning, promoting and implementing non-school day program, and Teenventure. Reporting Relationships This position reports to the Community Education Manager 2 and will work cooperatively with the entire Flipside team and other District staff. Position Location: Washington Technology Secondary School, 1495 Rice Street, St. Paul, MN 55117 Qualifications Minimum Qualifications * An associate's degree or two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester or 90 quarter credits) in education, community education, recreation, social services or a related field and two years of experience coordinating youth and family programs, including work with diverse populations and community involvement. (Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Considerable knowledge of computer software to develop promotional materials, budgets, databases, website and the aptitude to learn new software. * Knowledge of youth development best practices and the planning or implementing of youth programs. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to work effectively with youth, families, community agencies and diverse communities and to provide outreach services to them. * Demonstrated ability to take initiative and/or be a self starter. * Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team. * Demonstrated ability to organize and manage many details for numerous projects. * Able to travel to multiple school and community work sites. * Available to work days, weekends and evenings. * Ability to adjust quickly to changing expectations, initiatives & job duties. * Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of providing high quality, innovative educational opportunities for students and families. * Ability to think and plan strategically. * Ability to facilitate meetings. * Ability to manage a fixed budget. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in English, education, recreation, marketing, communications or a related degree. * Knowledge of academic curriculum in order to develop programs to enhance student academic achievement. * Experience with outreach to parents, families and community members. * Knowledge of existing community, educational and social service agencies within Saint Paul and surrounding communities. * Experience with community organizing, community mapping and recruiting community partners. * Experience developing promotional materials including but not limited to printed materials and editing websites. * Experience coordinating program activities with other agencies and organizations. Responsibilities Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties: * Assist with program and event planning and implementation to meet goals and objectives. * Develop and coordinate program communication and assist with marketing tools, promotional materials, newsletters, website updates, social media sites and related communications. * Support the development and maintenance of data collection systems; develop reports, charts and other related documentation. * Plan, promote and implement the non-school day college and career exploration program Teenventure. * Support the contract for services process and ensure community partners and vendors are paid in a timely manner. * Assist and support Site Coordinators with instructor and staff recruitment. * Assist and attend meetings. * Manage event budgets as needed. * Become knowledgeable about other related school district departments. * Contribute to the District's inclusive workplace efforts by fostering a safe, welcoming and respectful environment. * Perform other related duties as assigned. Terms of Employment This is a full-time, 12-month position supported by a 21st Century Learning Grant from the Minnesota Department of Education. Salary and benefits will be consistent with those provided by the School and Community Service Professional Bargaining Unit of the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers. The position is dependent on consistent and continued funding levels.
