Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Community Education Director. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Essential Functions * Supervises students during free play activities; assists with projects * Supervise and assist students in various settings throughout the Community Education program including, but not limited to: at the doors for arrival/dismissal, preschool classrooms, Wrap Around classroom, recess, cafeteria, and the School Age Care program * Reinforces positive behaviors and learning techniques with individual students and small groups * Assists students with self-help skills such as dressing, eating, hygiene and bathroom use * Prepares materials for classroom activities, makes copies, prepares art supplies; assists with snack and lunch time * Supervise children and activities in the SAC/WA programs * Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills * Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form * Strong organizational skills * General knowledge of standard office equipment and related software * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, students, parents, and community Education and Experience * High school diploma or GED required, Associates/Technical degree (preferred) * 2 years of experience working with children in a child-related field (preferred) * Must have patience and concern for the proper care of children * Must demonstrate the ability to work well with children, have good communication skills, show respect, consideration, warmth and affection with each child * Good human relation skills in dealing with a wide variety of people * Demonstrated ability to work well with others, maintain confidentiality, and provide positive service Physical Requirements: This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision and distance vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and Exposure to bodily fluids; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). General Definition of Work
