POSITION TITLE: History/Social Studies Teacher REPORTS TO: Dean of Faculty | Head of School START DATE: August 2024 STATUS: Full-Time; Exempt CONTACT: Please send cover letter, resume and faith testimony to: hr@swchs.org<mailto:hr@swchs.org> POSITION SUMMARY The teacher shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes, skills, and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature disciples of Jesus Christ who will seek, know, live, and proclaim the truth. This faculty member will work with the History/Social Studies department to help guide students learn in accordance with the academic programs of SWCHS and its curriculum. Based on education, experience, and interest, this position will teach a combination of some of the following classes: World History, U.S. History, Government and Politics, and Economics. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Required: Spiritual Qualities: Faculty at Southwest Christian High School will be asked to commit to the following: * Acknowledge Christ as Savior and seek to live his/her life as His disciple. * Believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God, our standard for faith and practice. * Demonstrate a desire for spiritual growth as evidenced by his/her prayer life, Bible study, and spiritual outreach to others. * Commit to uphold the core beliefs and philosophies defined in the SWCHS Statement of Faith, Philosophy, Social Position Statement, Values, Vision, and Pledge of Integrity & Biblical Morality. * Maintain a commitment to the school&#8217;s vision of helping students develop as mature disciples of Jesus Christ who seek, know, live, and proclaim the truth. * Display application of biblical truth, providing a spiritual example for students. * Instruct from a foundation of biblical truth that integrates faith and learning. Professional Qualities: Preparation and Instruction * Plan a program of study that meets the learning objectives for each course with attention given to meaningful learning and student abilities. * Integrates biblical principles and Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum. * Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child; spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional. * Maintain accurate grading, attendance, and student progress records and communicate these in a timely manner to our students and their families. * Maintain a clean, inviting, well-ordered classroom. * Recognize the value of positive public relations and represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to our constituency. Personal Qualities * Demonstrate sensitivity and ability to interact effectively with staff, parents, volunteers, and students. * Understand the importance of discernment, discretion, and confidentiality in the operation of the classroom and school. * Recognize his or her own mistakes and take measures to correct them. * Make an effort to appreciate and understand the uniqueness of the community. Supplemental Functions * Supervise extra-curricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned. * Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth. * Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school. * Perform other tasks or assignments that may be periodically requested by the School Administration. Educational Experience * Bachelor&#8217;s degree from an accredited postsecondary institution. * Master&#8217;s degree preferred * A current state teaching license in the subject area being taught is preferred. * Advanced degree with 18 credits in Political Science and/or Economics strongly preferred.
