He/she may also work in specialized programs or on an individual basis with students and/or families requiring close supervision and special assistance. The Paraprofessional provides support, explanation, re-teaching, and discipline. Duties/Responsibilities: * Guides and works through lesson plans with students by correcting tasks, interpreting class assignments, reinforcing as necessary, and recording and charting results as established by the Special Ed. Teacher. Monitors tests and informal quizzes and checks understanding to assess Special Ed. students' mastery of learned materials. * Instructs and assists students in getting to classes and/or job sites; during meals, showers, and bathroom training; or other activities planned for the students' day. * Monitors behavior of students for appropriateness and need for discipline and positive reinforcement, including when an instructor is not present or when off-site. * Recommends ideas, identifies problems or aids in problem solving to teachers and/or students. * Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: * High School diploma or equivalent. Associates degree in Education or related field preferred. * Prior experience as a paraprofessional preferred. * Experience working with students with special needs preferred. * Knowledge of practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching. Physical Job Requirements: * Employee is continuously required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, talk, and hear; frequently sits, stoops, kneels and/or crouches, reach with hands and arms in the performance of the job. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. * The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.
