The School Librarian supports the academic mission of the charter school by developing and managing a high-quality library program that fosters a love of reading, supports information literacy, and provides equitable access to resources. The librarian collaborates with teachers, administrators, and students to integrate research skills, digital citizenship, and technology into classroom learning.


Key Responsibilities

Library Operations & Collection Management

·         Selects, organizes, and maintains a diverse, current, and culturally responsive library collection.

·         Select and acquire resources (print, digital, multimedia) aligned with curriculum standards and student interests.

·         Manage the library budget and track inventory, circulation, and resource usage.

·         Ensure the library is safe, welcoming, and accessible to all students and staff.

Instruction & Student Support

·         Teach information literacy, research skills, digital citizenship, and media literacy aligned to academic standards.

·         Guide students in locating, evaluating, and ethically using information.

·         Support individualized learning through reader advisory services and literacy programming.

Collaboration & Curriculum Integration

·         Partner with teachers to integrate library resources into unit plans and project-based learning.

·         Support cross-curricular initiatives, including STEM, humanities, and arts programs.

·         Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum committees, and instructional planning.

Technology & Digital Resources

·         Manage digital research databases, online catalog systems, and other educational technologies.

·         Promote responsible and safe technology use.

·         Provide training for students and staff on digital tools and research platforms.

School & Community Engagement

·         Develop literacy events, book fairs, reading challenges, and family outreach programs.

·         Support school-wide initiatives, such as special projects, as assigned.

·         Strengthen community partnerships with public libraries, local authors, and literacy organizations.


Qualifications

Required

·         Valid (state-specific) School Librarian License or endorsement.

·         Bachelor''s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or related field.

·         Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational setting.
