Position Overview
 
Under the direction of the Director of Student Support Services, the Early Childhood Special Edcation Teacher provides early intervention services to students (birth through age three) and consultation services to employees and parents.  The Special Educator is responsible for the proper interpretation and performance of essential duties and responsibilities.
 
General Responsibilities
  1. Works with the Early Intervention team providing services for students birth through age three using a primary provider model and Family Guided Routines Based Intervention.
  2. Consults with teachers and parents regarding motor activities, self-help skills, special equipment or assistive devices, and sensory processing.
  3. Works as the primary provider and case manager in the team of early intervention professionals responsible for the IFSP and IEP.
  4. Maintains close communication with parents, and early intervention team concerning student’s performance.
  5. Maintains accurate records of students evaluated and served; including assessment results,  progress and reports.
  6. Participates in designated team meetings, Individualized  Family Service Plan meetings, Individual Education Plan meetings, and periodic reviews involved with assessment, programming and evaluation decisions.
  7. Schedules early intervention, evaluation and treatment appointments. 
  8. Screens and evaluates students who have been referred to early intervention using standardized and criterion referenced tools. 
 
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as professional assessment and program manuals.
  • Ability to make decisions regarding eligibility for and dismissal from special services.
  • Ability to score and interpret score on standardized tests.
  • Ability to effectively write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to schedule efficiently.
  • Ability to function as a member of a professional team
  • Ability to provide consultation services to  parents  and at times teachers to effectively serve students.
  • Ability to handle and manipulate specialized equipment and demonstrate for students as needed.
  • Ability to perform work wherever required by students and parents including schools, offices, and residences and community 
  • Ability to use typical office productivity software and applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Schoology, Infinite Campus, etc.)
 
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force, and/or negligible of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
 
Qualifications
Early Childhood Special Education Experience and License in Early Childhood Special Education 
 
Licensing Requirements
Minnesota License in Early Childhood Special Education
