MN Academy of Hearing, Speech & Language seeks a 0.5 FTE Charter School Start-Up Consultant / Planning Coordinator

Compensation: Contract: Commensurate with Experience


General Summary

Work with the Board of Directors to ensure a successful launch of the school, opening fall 2018.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  1. Compliance with Federal, State and Authorizer Obligations
    Provide technical assistance to ensure that compliance in special reference to the Federal CSP Grant, Procurements, Staffing, Purchases, Employment Agreements, and Contracts.


  1. Board of Directors
    Provide technical guidance to ensure that policies are developed and approved; Chapter 13 obligations are met; required training is scheduled and fulfilled according to Minnesota Statutes §124E; and attend all scheduled Board meetings as well as meet with the Board Chair and Secretary one week prior to the board meeting to discuss progress on the Ready to Open Checklist.


  1. Services and Contracts
    Provide technical guidance and support to secure critical and essential services and that all contracts are compliant, including Food and Nutrition, Transportation, Facilities Lease, Special Education, and others as identified.  


  1. Marketing and Enrollment
    Provide technical guidance and create a viable marketing plan to insure that enrollment targets are reached.  Work with Recruitment Coordinator if one becomes employed by the school.    


  1. Budget and Finances
    Provide technical guidance to ensure that a positive fund balance is maintained; assist the effort to secure a line of credit.


  1. Facilities
    Identify and secure adequate facilities that are eligible for Lease Aid. Identify facility options for anticipated 5 year growth projections.


  1. Early Learning Program - Expansion Application
    Provide technical guidance to prepare the application needed, affording the school the opportunity to serve pre-K students.


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  1. Experience in K-12 Administration.

  2. Significant experience with Federal CSP Grant procurement and management.

  3. Significant experience with the Minnesota Department of Education, Charter Center.

  4. A minimum of five years with charter schools in Minnesota, including leadership support and managing the contracting of services.

  5. Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills are necessary.  High levels of judgment, initiative and creativity are expected.

  6. Experience in successfully launching new charter schools.
