Middle School Learning Specialist

Minnehaha Academy is a Christian school, owned by the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Our mission is to provide a high quality education integrating Christian faith and learning.

 

Minnehaha Academy is hiring a Middle School Learning Specialist to begin in August for the 2017-2018 school year. The position is full-time and is eligible for benefits.

 

The role of the Learning Specialist is to support students with diverse learning needs by providing intervention and remediation, support teachers in their efforts to advance students with different learning needs in the classroom, and to work with parents and outside professionals to better serve students with specialized needs. This individual will work to understand the academic needs of our current and prospective Middle School students and will lead efforts to develop plans for continued growth in this area.

 

The Middle School Learning Specialist will coordinate the academic support program including:

        Participate in weekly grade level team meetings to discuss and address individual student needs

        Maintain records and documentation of plans, interventions, and communications for students with individualized needs

        Serve as the liaison with Minneapolis Special Education staff, including evaluation and IEP processes

        Collaborate with the Counselor to facilitate administration of school-based standardized tests

        Analyze data, observations, and teacher feedback to identify research-based strategies and practices that will further strengthen our opportunities for student engagement and growth

        Facilitate internal communications to support student growth, as well as ongoing monitoring of the plans and their success

        Facilitate communication with parents to ensure a strong home-school partnership

         Provide information, resources, and training as needed to support teachers, ensuring that they are equipped to provide differentiation and accommodations as needed

 

In addition, the Learning Specialist will teach three resource-type room Learning Lab classes (6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade).

 

Qualifications include:

        Bachelor’s degree in education, licensure in Special Education; Master’s degree preferred

        Successful teaching experience in a middle school setting

        Student-centered instructional approach

        Demonstrated ability to work as a team member, collaborating, and leading toward shared goals

        Ability to develop positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues

        Strong organization and communication skills

        State Licensure in a Special Education field required

        Desire and ability to integrate the Christian faith into the daily responsibilities
