Building Principals, immediate supervisor
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
  • Current CPR certification
  • Minimum of two years nursing experience
  • Experience working with students with multiple handicaps
  • Clerical and computer experience   

This class is the fifth level in the five level Paraprofessional group, this group includes the Health Paraprofessional.  The Health Paraprofessional assists with students’ daily routine health care, medications, treatments, episodic and first aid care and manages the school’s Health Services Office, under the supervision of the Licensed School Nurse (LSN). 

$16.75/hr (starting salary for new hires)

  • Proofreading typed materials and documents
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, students, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction 

To perform nursing duties as delegated by the Licensed School Nurse
  • Dispenses medication and provides treatment as prescribed by physician and delegated by the LSN according to District policy and procedures; this may include suctioning, tube feeding, checking blood pressure, catheterization, auscultation, and otoscopic exams
  • Provides first aid according to established policies and procedures maintaining a daily log of accidents and injuries and completing necessary forms
  • Receives students who are ill and checks them in to the Health Services Office and/or sends them home as appropriate
  • Assists with routine screenings, refers all findings to the LSN
  • Reports students with repeated symptoms, problems, or incidents of communicable disease to the LSN
  • Documents services provided to students with an IEP for the purpose of third party billing
  • Assists the LSN in obtaining required verification of immunizations in accordance with school district policy, as requested
  • Attends required district, building, or nursing meetings and trainings
To manage the Health Services Office:
  • Maintains Health Services Office by updating health records, tracking inventory, filing and other related functions for the maintenance of an organized and effective health office, handling telephone calls and communications in a professional manner; types letters, memos and forms under the direction of the LSN; responsible for proofreading own materials
  • Performs duties of a receptionist such as receiving and screening calls, handling recurring routine matters, furnishing general information, issuing passes to students and assisting visitors as necessary
  • Maintains communication with the LSN regarding documented health office occurrences or changes to student health information
Other duties as assigned
  • Positions in this class typically require:  reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions
  • Light Work:  exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
