Ojibwe Teacher at Spirit of the Lake Community School in Duluth

Our mission is to honor and educate the whole child by equally engaging body, mind, emotions and spirit.
 
PRIMARY PURPOSE
To teach Ojibwe language, culture, and crafts to grade school students
To contribute to the success of Spirit of the Lake Community School in its beginning years
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification: 
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Waldorf Training preferred
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Fluent in the Ojibwe language
Able to teach a traditional craft(s) such as beadwork, moccasin-making, basket-making, etc.
Positive and proactive communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Waldorf education
Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the children in our care
Commitment to Personal and Professional self-development
Acceptance of cultural, racial, religious, affectional preference and economic differences between people
 
Experience:
Experience teaching children in an educational setting
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Plan and teach the Ojibwe language, culture, and crafts to grade school classes based on Rudolf Steiner’s child development theory and Waldorf education
Guide students through Main Lesson Book creations for Ojibwe class
Plan cultural activities for/with the school
Maintain communication with class teachers
Provide summaries of student progress to class teachers the week prior to parent-teacher conferences
Write yearly reports for each child and submit to class teacher at the end of the school year
Maintain a high-quality, structured classroom experience for children
Ensure high standard of ethics by providing for child and family confidentiality
Participate in faculty meetings as needed
