Hiawatha Academies is a growing network of high-performing, K-12 open enrollment public charter schools. We are driven by our mission that, all Hiawatha Academies scholars will be empowered with the knowledge, character, and leadership skills to graduate from college and serve the common good. We have demonstrated success in student achievement, having consistently been recognized by the Star Tribune as Beating the Odds Schools.

 

In addition, we recently received the honor of the Minnesota’s Future Award from the MN Business Partnership. Our vision is to expand our impact by growing to 5 schools by 2020. At scale, we will be putting 5% of all school-age scholars in Minneapolis on the path to and through college.

 

The Network Support Team is currently seeking a hard-working, passionate, goal-oriented leader to join our team as the Director of Enrollment and Admissions (immediately need).

 

 

Job Description

The Director of Enrollment and Admissions (DEA) is responsible for developing and implementing an annual student recruitment plan that aligns with Hiawatha Academies’ student enrollment goals during a period of rapid expansion. The DEA will report to the Sr. Director of Community Engagement, working closely with the Sr. Director of Community Engagement and school operations teams to collectively recruit and enroll new students in each of the four Hiawatha schools.

Responsibilities

Planning and Execution

·         Work with Sr. Director of Community Engagement to set, track and implement student recruitment program to achieve student recruitment goals for all five Hiawatha Academies schools.

·         Develop new initiatives for high school student recruitment

·         Work with Office Managers to follow-up with student applicants and track enrollment data through organized system.

·         Input, track, report, and analyze all data regarding student recruitment benchmarks and goals.

·         In collaboration with the Senior Director of Community Engagement and Director of Marketing, develop recruitment budget and make decisions about where to invest resources.

 

Recruitment

·         Oversee and manage campus-based recruitment and enrollment activities.

·         Act as a liaison between the external relations team and operations managers.

·         Act as the liaison and manager for the retention of scholars from Hiawatha College Prep to Hiawatha Collegiate High School

·         In collaboration with the External Relations team, execute strategies to promote Hiawatha Academies schools and school choice to community members.

·         Manage the recruitment, enrollment, and admissions process for our 5 K-12 schools.

 

Outreach

·         In collaboration with the Family Engagement Manager, schedule and lead presentations about Hiawatha Academies  enrollment options at day cares, churches and other community-based organizations.

·         Communicate with existing families to enroll siblings and access local networks to support recruitment goals.

·         In collaboration with campus teams and the Director of Marketing and Communications, lead and manage outreach campaigns within Hiawatha Academies schools to encourage application referrals among current families.

 

Management

·         Supervise and manage Hiawatha Academies student recruitment coordinator and ambassadors and volunteers during community events and community canvassing efforts.

·         Oversee and manage the contract of the enrollment data management system that is suited for Hiawatha Academies growing network of schools.

·         Coordinate with DO's to manage and support campus operations teams to effectively implement the enrollment process from beginning to end.

Hiawatha Employment Logistics

·         This role would be a part of the Network Support Team and the Student Support Services sub-team

·         The work day for most Network Support Team members is from 7:15 am-4:30 pm, with some flexibility according to role and circumstance

·         Regular weekly presence at all Hiawatha campuses (currently 4 Minneapolis schools) will be required; must provide own transportation

 

Skills & Qualifications

Required:

·         At least three years of experience in organizing, community engagement, or managing campaigns

·         Bilingual or multilingual (Somali or Spanish)

·         Bachelor’s degree

·         Program and project management experience

·         Ability to organize, plan, execute, and prioritize

·         Ability to drive toward results

·         Ability to effectively work with a wide variety of stakeholders including families, community leaders, school and Pre-K leaders

·         Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal skills, and ability to build trust

·         Ability to exercise excellent judgment in decisionmaking

·         Ability to demonstrate flexibility

·         Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

·         Ability to work evenings and weekends

·         Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Ability to cultivate and invest key stakeholders and allies on getting scholars to and through college

·         Ability to juggle competing priorities while meeting and exceeding ambitious goals

·         Ability to track and analyze data strategically and purposefully

·         Ability to think complexly and solve problems

 

Highly Preferred:

·         Previous experience in schools

·         Experience building, expanding, and maintaining strong partnerships within and outside of the education sector

·         Public speaking experience
