Health and Nutrition Educational Assistant - NSP - Lionsgate Academy

POSITION TITLE:  Educational Assistant / Health Coordinator / Food and Nutrition



SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm


To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, other team members, families, students and community members  in providing support to employees and students in the AIM and Lynx programs.


  • Daily scheduling of available staff to meet student needs across programs.

  • Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment to support student needs.

  • Provide direct behavioral and educational support to students, as needed, across both programs.

  • Coordinate transportation needs for both programs to include scheduling LGA Type III Vehicles and external transportation.

Health Coordinator

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive health records.

  • Follow appropriate school and health policies and procedures.

  • Daily medication administration and management.

  • Analyze potential student and employee ailments and follow policy/protocols for interventions. (ex: need to go home, administer Tylenol, rest etc).

  • Document actions  appropriately with use of personal and school wide systems.

  • Participate in staff meetings, training programs and/or conferences designed to promote professional development.Including health trainings such as seizure training, first aid, medication administration, concussion, etc.

  • Collaborate with case managers and under the supervision of the licensed school nurse to ensure dignity of activities of daily living performed at school. Along with assisting in student activities of daily living when necessary and appropriate as directed in student plan.

  • Effective communication with staff and families regarding the student medical history, incident reporting (mandated reporting), and student health needs.

  • Coordinate coverage of health office/duties when unavailable.

Food and Nutrition, under the direction of the Special Education Nutrition Coordinator

  • Executes duties related to serving lunch to Lynx students and maintaining Lynx kitchen, as documented in Lynx Food Service Procedures

  • Completes other duties, as assigned, related to Food and Nutrition, including but not limited to:

    • Participating in staff meetings, training programs and/or conferences designed to promote professional development, including those required by MDE.


  • Other job-related duties as assigned by Site Director.

  • Maintain positive, professional relationships and use appropriate verbal, non-verbal and written communication with all individuals.

  • Regular, prompt attendance.

  • Ability to drive school owned vehicles.

Special Education due process knowledge and/or willingness to learn special education due process requirements and systems

Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or currently enrolled in program for certification
2 year degree or a minimum of 60 college credits OR successful completion of the ParaPro exam
Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete the required job tasks
Experience working in a school or long-term care setting.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Knowledge and experience working with students on the autism spectrum
One year previous experience working in a middle school or high school setting
One year previous experience working as a Certified Nursing Assistant
