The Indian Education Academic Assistant will provide direct academic support to students in the Indian Education Program and will work with a caseload of students as assigned by the Director of Indian Education and Program Coordinator. This position will also work closely under the guidance of the Indian Education Coordinator to achieve the program goals of meeting the diverse education and cultural needs of American Indian Students. This position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 

Essential Functions: 
  • Comply with the Family of Educational Rights and Privacy Acts (FERPA) and current educational privacy regulations to ensure student confidentiality. 
  • Provide direct academic assistance to students in the Indian Education Program. Content areas will include mathematics, reading, writing, history, and additional subjects in the current   K-12 curriculum. 
  • Utilizing the Infinite Campus system, hold individual meetings with students to discuss grades, behavior, and goals.
  • Monitor individual student attendance, behavior, and academic progress in the assigned case load
  • Gather student academic progress, exclusionary factors related to culture, attendance, and disciplinary reports. Submit reports to the Indian Education Coordinator
  • In collaboration with the Indian Education Coordinators; implement best practices for supporting students
  • Communicate with general education teachers and special education teachers regarding the progress of students
  • Follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) when working with special needs students 
  • Attend trainings and internal meetings as directed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
