Adult Basic Ed Literacy Assistant
Location:  ABE Center - Brooklyn Center Lutheran Church to the Master

Part-Time  12 months/122 days/4.5 hrs a day
Position hours:  Tuesday thru Thursday, 8:30 am-1:00 pm

Duties:  Assist adult non-native English speaking (ESL) learners in the classroom under the guidance of a licensed teacher in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, math, and basic computer skills.  Additional duties include conducting student intake, registration, assessment, monitoring student attendance, conducting student follow up, completing student data and record keeping, and supporting volunteers. Administer the CASAS and TABE standardized tests (training provided).  Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent.  Strong communication and organizational skills.  Ability to be flexible and function well in a busy and ethnically and culturally diverse population environment.  

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience working in an ABE academic program preferred.  Experience working with diverse populations preferred.  Previous experience working with adult learners preferred.  Experience using technology and with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Publisher, databases, Internet and email preferred.  Ability to work well with volunteers preferred.  BA/BS preferred.  Bilingual skills a plus.  Experience and comfort in working with math skills preferred.  Experience with ESL learners preferred.

Rate of pay:  $13.62/hour.

Start Date:  ASAP after closing.
