                 Title:     Ojibwe LanguageTeacher

       Reports to:     Principal

        Work Site:      Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School

   Salary/Status:     DOQ

 

Purpose: This position is responsible for implementing knowledge and values of the Ojibwe Language to students in order to contribute to their future as positive and productive members of society through the creation of an integrated, progressive Ojibwe-language immersion curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities:     

1.     Develop daily and weekly lesson plans, including homework assignment, assigns, collects, reviews and evaluates the contents of completes work on the subject of Ojibwe language.

2.     Evaluates and assesses student performance and progress, through midterm and final progress reports, and through the report card grading system.

3.     Uses school software to map curriculum standards and benchmarks

4.     Aligns lessons with curriculum maps and state standards/benchmarks

5.     Continuously seeks to improve course content and the learning experience.

6.     Connects with students and develops nurturing repertoire

7.     Maintains the orderly behavior of students, and routes the discipline issues to appropriate administration.

8.     Maintains the general order and appearance of the classroom.

9.     Functions as a mandated reporter; testifies in court and serves as a child advocate.

10.  Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must have an Eminence license or (willing to get one) or a license in American Indian Language and Culture.

Must have HS diploma or GED equivalent.

Sensitivity to the unique needs of American Indian children and families.

Flexible, patient, with a good sense of humor.

High degree of professional ethics.

Subject to internal working conditions, non-smoking environment.
