                 Title:      Speech Pathologist

     Department:      Special Education

       Reports to:      Principal

        Work Site:      Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School

   Salary/Status:     DOQ

 

Purpose:

Responsible for assisting students in remediating speech impediments in order to improve communication

 

Duties and Responsibilities:     

1.     Performs school-wide hearing and speech screenings; refers students to school nurse for full hearing tests with audiologist as appropriate

2.     Secures authorizations from parents; performs assessments (Peabody picture vocabulary test, B.O.H.E.M. concepts tests, ect) on students failing screenings

3.     Confers with M-Team members in development of student IEP

4.     Functions as case manager for approximately 60 speech clients yearly; maintains IEP’s schedules parent meetings, determines eligibility for placement in speech program, develops goals, ect.

5.     Schedules all client sessions and coordinates activities with classroom teachers

6.     Develops plans and provides therapy for all speech clients in the areas of articulation, language, voice, and fluency; documents sessions and maintains accurate records on all clients

7.     Conducts hearing tests and screenings upon referral by staff or parent

8.     Develop strategies and techniques to maintain highest interest level of all speech clients

9.     Orders supplies and materials as needed for program

10.  Communicates with staff and parents on client progress

11.  Ensures ongoing professional development through training, workshops, and related activities

12.  Performs hall and lunchroom duty on rotating basis

13.  Performs all other duties assigned

 

Qualifications:

1.     Valid state of Minnesota license as Speech Language Pathologist

2.     Masters degree

3.     High degree of patience

4.     Sensitivity to the unique needs of Native American children; familiarity with Native American cultural values, lifestyles, and traditions
