The Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf is in search of a Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf Director.

Job Summary

This is a twelve month (year round) position at the Minnesota State Academies in Faribault, Minnesota.  The Director of the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf manages the Academy's administration, operations, strategic planning, human resources, communication, budgetary needs and requirements, and coordination of services/instruction for deaf/hard of hearing and deaf/blind students, including those with additional learning and physical needs.  The Director supervises the entire educational component of the Academy ensuring compliance with the students' Individual Education Programs.

Academy wide responsibilities include:

1.  Maintaining and extending contacts and partnerships with schools for the deaf nationwide; state agencies, other educational institutions; school districts and cities nationwide; and other residential educational facilities to maximize the Academy's access to best practices in education of the deaf/hard of hearing/deaf-blind children.

2.  Collaborates with administrative team and educational staff to formulate and implement strategic plans to extend and improve education for D/HH/DB children;

3.  Development, implementation, and support for curricular and instructional changes to ensure high expectations and supports for high quality educational experiences for our students;

4.  Support the Board of MSA in carrying out the policies and annual school goals, including regular reports and information sharing;

5. Collaborates with the Director of the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind and the Director of Student Support Services to establish appropriate instructional programming that provides high quality instruction to students who are deaf, hard of hearing, and/or deaf-blind in order to help them progress academically and socially through the implementation of MSA's educational program and components of each student's Individual Education Program (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Minimum Qualifications:

1.  Current Minnesota Principal's Licensure and Teacher Licensure by the State of Minnesota in D/HH education is required.

2. Advanced Level ASL skills as rated by MSA's Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) process are required based on timelines in policy.

3.  Thorough knowledge of managerial/organizational skills, budgeting, educational policy, and administration with special emphasis on education for Deaf/Hard of Hearing/DeafBlind children, including those with additional learning/physical needs is essential.

4. The ability to work effectively with a number of systems, including local, regional, and state-wide education programs, state agencies, including the Minnesota Department of Education, various advocacy and consumer/community groups for parents and families, and other organizations serving D/HH/DB populations is essential to this position.

5. Ability to interact with students, teachers, and other staff professionally is expected.

6. Excellent written English skills are required, including the ability to express information and concepts clearly and persuasively for a variety of audiences.  Ability to communicate effectively in both ASL and English is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current Licensure in Minnesota as a Special Education Director

Two years of successful experience working as a principal/executive director in a school setting

Additional Requirements

This position requires successful completion of the following:

Successful completion of a Criminal Background check.

Employees driving on MSA business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MSA’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
