Job Title: FT Cafeteria and Kids’ Club Monitor
Department: Food Service
Supervisor: Food Service Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary
This position exists to provide general supervision of children during lunch times and during after and before school programming.  The Cafeteria and Kids’ Club Monitor promotes a safe and healthy environment and provides appropriate role modeling for students and other staff.  This position either works 6am to 2pm or 10am to 6pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

During Cafeteria Duty:
Supervise and monitor children during their lunch period, respond to emergencies per DECS policy and guidelines; report instances of unsafe conditions or behaviors.
Ensure a safe environment by discouraging and responding to inappropriate student behaviors; promote appropriate student behaviors through role modeling and positive reinforcement; and develop rapport with students to encourage free communication.
Maintain discipline by enforcing lunchtime rules within the policy and direction of DECS administration.
Perform light cleaning duties within the lunchroom area such as wiping tables, cleaning up spills, and sweeping the floor on an as-needed basis.
Read and interpret basic written documents such as lists and basic directions.
Using a microphone to speak over a loudspeaker to provide directions to students during periods of high noise.
Attend meetings and training as scheduled; participate in group activities as directed.
Conduct snack preparation duties and/or classroom food counts.

During Kids’ Club Programming:
Effectively manage conflict between students through a proactive, positive approach using age-appropriate interventions
Take accurate attendance and verify students comply with snack guidelines; record snacks accurately to ensure proper documentation
Maintain confidentiality with regards to students, staff and families; comply with HIPAA and FERPA regulations
Utilize communication skills to develop rapport with students and staff; communicate verbally and in written form with others; and relay appropriate information
Maintain and produce detailed documentation during the shift, including logging the location of individual students.
Encourages positive behavior with students through proper role-modeling
Maintain appropriate boundaries with students with regard to physical contact and appropriate information sharing.
Arrive on-time for meetings, shifts, and trainings; demonstrate dependable and reliable attendance and punctuality.
Demonstrate respect for coworkers and managers; manage interpersonal conflict in a professional manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
No prior experience or training is required.  Experience with children in grades K-8 preferred.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
