Venture Academy is seeking a Theater and Presentation Teacher for the 2017-18 school year!

Based in Minneapolis, Venture Academy serves 300 students in grades 6-10. Our model focused on personalized and project-based learning designed to spark the motivation of diverse learners. About the Position

Venture Academy is seeking a talented and passionate individual to create a theater  program, infuse presentation and literacy into design and makerspace, lead the planning of four annual student work showcases and coach theatre, debate and speech teams after-school. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience, experience with at risk students and have extensive experience with either theater, speech or debate. The candidate should be prepared to facilitate these programs with a self-directed mindset and creativity. The candidate will also embrace and support schoolwide literacy goals and programs, as a member of both the enrichment team and the literacy team.  The report time for the position will be 9 am until 6 pm.


Responsibilities:

  • Planning and delivering a high school theater class based on national and Minnesota standards.

  • Co-teach Design class focusing on writing about and presenting student projects.

  • Lead classes that include teacher instruction, project-based learning units and personalized learning.

  • Plan four evening community showcases where student projects are proudly displayed.

  • Coach three after school teams: Theatre; Debate; Speech

  • Analyze student achievement data and implement differentiation strategies to drive student success.

  • Inspire students to apply their own creativity and interests to their work.

  • Apply entrepreneurial practices to implement innovative classroom solutions.

  • Support, guide, and encourage the development of student/staff entrepreneurial ventures.

  • Mentor students, helping students track their personalized learning plan progress.

  • Participate in evening family events (conferences, student showcases) and Saturday speech and debate team competitions throughout the school year.


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success working with students, preferably low-income and students of color.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.

  • Minnesota teaching license

  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

  • Technology proficiency.
