Venture Academy is seeking a part-time makerspace coach for the 2017-18 school year!

About Venture Academy

Venture Academy’s mission is to build entrepreneurs by developing the independence, scholarship, and leadership of young people. Venture Academy serves 300 students in grades 6-10 in 2017-18. Venture Academy opened in 2013 and is located right off the Green Line near the University of Minnesota in Prospect Park. Our model focused on personalized and project-based learning designed to spark the motivation of diverse learners. As we grow, we seek dedicated, innovative, and fun educators to join our team!


About the Position

Venture Academy is seeking a talented and passionate individual to coach students in makerspace 4 hours a day AND to provide technical support to the school staff for up to 5 hours per week.  The ideal candidate has a background in technology and brings creative skills and talents such as video game design, graphic design, 3D printing, woodworking, mechanics, coding, computer science and/or others.  


Responsibilities:

  • Working directly with students in self-directed creative projects.

  • Co-teaching makerspace components of design class with the lead Design teacher.

  • Ensuring the safety of students in the workshop.

  • Managing or co-managing technology in the makerspace/design lab.

  • Provide IT support to staff for minor technology issues.

  • Communicate with IT services provider for major technology issues.

  • Apply entrepreneurial practices to implement innovative classroom solutions

  • Inspire students to “go beyond” the classroom whenever possible.

  • Support, guide, and encourage the development of student/staff entrepreneurial ventures.

  • Mentor students and helping students track their personalized learning plan progress.

  • Participate in evening events (conferences, student showcases) throughout the school year.


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success working with students, preferably low-income and students of color.

  • High School Diploma or higher

  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

  • Technology proficiency.
