Position: Speech Language Pathologist

 

Position Summary: Provide evaluation and services for students in grade K-8 with articulation, voice, fluency and receptive and expressive language disorders with a variety of diagnoses. 

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Valid Minnesota license in Communication Disorders (Educational Speech Language Pathologist)Master's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders

·         American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) preferred, but we are willing to accept Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates

·         Background working directly with students in the area of communication disorders

·         Background in conducting assessments and writing evaluations

Responsibilities/Essential Duties:

·         Evaluate and provide services for students with Speech and Language Impairments (such as: articulation, voice, fluency, and receptive and expressive language disorders

·         Case-manage students with the primary disability of Speech and Language Impairment

·         Complete all paperwork within the given Minnesota Due Process timelines

·         Complete speech and/or language screenings for staff and/or parent concerns

·         Participate in planning initial evaluations for Child Study team meetings

·         Develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEP)

·         Hold meetings with parents to discuss evaluation results and plan IEPs

·         Work with interpreters for evaluations and meetings to ensure student and parent understanding, when necessary

·         Communicate with parents regarding progression of goals and collaborate with other professionals such as Occupational Therapist, Autism Specialists, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialists regarding continuing care of students

·         Have an understanding of working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations and therefore understand the difference between “language difference” and a “language disorder”

·         Participate in a weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) meeting, bi-weekly Child Study team meeting, monthly all-staff meetings, and bi-weekly SPED Department meetings, in addition to caseload evaluation and IEP meetings

Others Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills

·         Knowledge of specialized instruction and Due Process in the area of speech and language

·         An ability to work in a team approach

·         Knowledge of SPED Forms is beneficial, but not required
