Vermilion Country School


Indian Ed Liaison and Tutor


The Vermilion Country School (VCS), a grades 7-12 public charter school serving the Lake Vermilion area in Minnesota’s North Country.


The Liaison/Tutor will be working on a part-time limited basis with our Indian Ed students in the areas of academic tutoring and assisting the Indian Ed program.  This is a grant limited position and is dependent upon funding as available.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • facilitating academic goal-setting
  • providing skills instruction (study and homework habits)
  • monitoring progress to report back to Advisors
  • communicating with parent/guardians as directed by Indian Ed Advisor
  • providing tutoring assistance
  • assisting in carrying out Indian Ed program as directed by Indian Ed Advisor


Required Qualifications:


Meet the qualifications of a paraprofessional (at least an Associate’s degree and/or passing
ParaPro scores)

Skills and demeanor to maintain a positive and nurturing school climate.

Successful background check.


Preferred Qualifications:


Experience tutoring students in math/language arts

Ability to drive school vehicles and/or obtain CDL/Bus license for driving a small school bus.

Interest or background in Indian Education (highly preferred).

Experience in working in a team based model

A strong desire to actively participate in the creation of a supportive learning community
