JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

To provide leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of the Network’s curriculum

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate on the development of the Instructional vision for the Network;
  • Coordinate development of new and revised curriculum for the Network.  Organize and review the results of curriculum committees, ensuring results are consistent with Network objectives;
  • Work with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level and department meetings in order to effect horizontal and vertical integration and articulation of the instructional program throughout the Network;
  • Supervise and coordinate Network assessment program;
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate curricular changes;
  • Communicate the rationale for curricular changes to the board, administration, staff, and general public;
  • Conduct and coordinate Network-wide research and testing for measuring the effectiveness of the total educational program;
  • Keep informed on the latest research, trends, and developments in all areas of education and interpret for staff as necessary;
  • Monitor textbook and supplementary materials selection used in education programs in the Network;
  • Partner with school and Network leadership teams to coordinate and evaluate staff development and in-service activities for the education staff;
  • Upon request of principals, observe teachers in their classrooms and offer insights for the enhancement of effective instruction;
  • Supervise the educational technology program of the Network include acquisition and usage for appropriate technology equipment;
  • Review quality and effectiveness of lesson plans and instruction;
  • Keeps abreast of, and interprets to the staff, the current research in relevant areas of curriculum development, teaching and learning;
  • Studies, evaluates, and as appropriate, recommends to the CEO the adoption of new instructional materials, methods, courses, programs and tools;
  • Meets with teachers and support staff, principals, and Network administrators for the purpose of maintaining ongoing supervision of the coordination and implementation of the Network curriculum,
  • The Director of Curriculum and Instruction conducts research relating to problems in curriculum development and instructional improvement.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment.  The successful candidate will have the ability and desire to work across three school campuses.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; stoop, kneel, talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time, year round position.  Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.  The Harvest Network of Schools has a unique culture with a high work standard.  At times, employees are required to work long hours, including nights and weekends (as needed), as well as maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of students and staff.  As such, additional duties beyond those highlighted may be required.

 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience and three years supervisory experience in the areas of curriculum and instruction

Minimum of five years direct people management experience

Understand and had experience with change management

Demonstrated leadership in school improvement, program development, curriculum integration and application of technology across the curriculum

Have four years of experience and be knowledgeable in at least two of the following:

·       Elementary school math

·       Elementary school literacy

·       Middle school math

·       Middle school literacy

Experience in collaborating with staff to foster differentiated instruction through staff development and modeling

Knowledge of current trends and research-proven strategies in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, technology, integrated learning, assessments

Ability to plan, organize and administer a professional development program at the elementary and middle school level
